Has anyone else noticed during the morning commute how the traffic tailback seems to have got worse since the road works were undertaken at the junction of Forest Hill Road, Canonbie Road and Wood Vale?

Heading towards Peckham Rye, it’s now regularly tailing back to Honor Oak Park station. It was (understandably) very bad while the work was being carried out, then it got a bit better during the Christmas/New Year break – but now the workman seem to have gone and it just hasn’t got any better – Indeed, it appears to be significantly worse than it was before the work was started. It’s also affecting Devonshire Road, Hengrave Road and Honor Oak Road.

Does anyone know if the works are now finished and if so, what’s causing the continuing problems? They seem to have added some additional islands down the centre of Forest Hill Road.

I agree it's pretty bad - I waited for ages to cross the road there recently because of an unbroken procession of cars running from the lights at the Wood Vale/Honor Oak Road junction running all the way back to Honor Oak Park station. Wonder if the light phasing is wrong.

Traffic seems worse all round to be fair. I used to enjoy almost empty roads following the south circular past Dulwich Sports Grounds from the old Harvester but the traffic has been backed up all down there for weeks too and that seems to be affecting traffic leaving FH.

Further afield, 'improvements' for us cyclists around Camberwell and Oval seem to have caused traffic problems too.

I can't work out why it is happening. Not obvious why it was better for a few weeks ago either. I though it was the works. but not convinced any more.

I think it was better a few weeks ago because of the school holidays - so less traffic. But agreed, it's a bit of a mystery now. Les could be right about the phasing of the lights.

not convinced it is school run either as it did not like to be like this before the works.

Agreed. School run or not - it was more free flowing before the works were started. Also noticed this morning that there were surveyers at the junction of Forest Hill Road & Honor Oak Road - more changes?

I leave at 7:20 and head down towards Catford for Kent. Traffic going the other way is dreadful.
