It resulted in side roads (Canonbie in particular) becoming gridlocked at due to the traffic with long jams, huge lorries trying to pass each other, scooter drivers weaving across the pavement, back onto the road and again onto the pavement. At times the examples of driving were nothing less than extremely dangerous and poor by some very impatient people.
