Went past Perry Vale just after 4pm (Sunday) where a black car on Mayow Road was badly bashed to it's left side alongside fire engines and police who closed off the junction.

The roundabout was put in after an accident about 8 years ago. I was walking back from a night at the proms when a car came zooming down Sunderland road and tried to take the junction like a staggered crossroad, but only succeeded in hitting the wall (hence the missingn bricks). I never heard if the passengers were ok, I do hope so.
I agree on roundabout etiquette. As a cyclist I now slow right down as you can never trust drivers to indicate correctly.

I live on Mayow Road and use this roundabout almost every day. Some people seem incapable of remembering how roundabouts work when it's a mini one and just fail to give way then look all surprised when they see someone slamming on the brakes so as not to hit them side on. This happens a lot if I am turning right into Mayow Road. The traffic coming from Perry Vale in the opposite direction should give way to me but about 30 percent of the time they don't, even if I've already started to make the turn. And I ALWAYS indicate!

At Forest Hill Day yesterday the police had set up a miniature zebra crossing, to teach children how to use them. Perhaps next year they could set up a mini-roundabout, to give adults a refresher in how to use them.

With a dangerous junction so near a secondary school, it's time Lewisham went back to the drawing board and design a traffic calming system, such as traffic lights.

I can't believe that I missed the miniature zebras, how cute. What were they crossing?
I always felt that a T-junction on Mayow Road/Perry Vale was more sensible than the mini roundabout. I never like mini-roundabouts on straight roads, it is asking for trouble (even worse on Worsley Bridge Road).

Blushing - I was going to say what a good idea, except that about five minutes ago I used that roundabout to turn right and was cut up by ... a police car. I stopped mid junction and just raised my hands in despair.

Rubbish duplicate thread!
But I'll add that generally the mini roundabout is better than the old T-junction. It has slowed the traffic down a little, improved the flow turning right and there seem to be less traffic accidents at this spot.
Not much of a consolation if yours is the car hit by another travelling too fast and refusing to give way. [legal]which might not be the case this time[\legal]
There is no chance of getting traffic lights here, as it would impact on traffic flow and the longer term aim of making PV a pedestrian free motorway.
Sorry but it irritates me that we have a 20mph zone and new pedestrian islands by the er archipelago in PV north - an area with virtually no traffic at all. It is the traffic in PV itself that needs slowing, and crossing facilities improved.
