There is a derelict looking house on Devonshire road (number 208 I believe) which has for the brief time I have lived in the area (5 months) looked empty. However, in the past week, there has periodically been a light on in one of the upstairs rooms. I apologize for being nosy, but can anyone shed a light on what's going on with the house?

Are you near the nature reserve? There is supposed to be a ghost around there - one of the railway workers from the late 1800s. Though why he would want to move into a house and start putting the light on is a mystery.

About a year ago I saw a sign outside saying that it was for sale by auction but nothing since. I too saw a light on in one of the rooms. Mystery

It didn't sell at auction so still owned by the same people and still empty.

There is a man with a grey van who makes minor repairs occasionally but when I popped my head in the front door it didn't look like he was making any inroads to making it habitable again.

Does anyone have a link to the auction details? I'd be interested to see them. Not sure when it was up for auction but couldn't find it on rightmove or zoopla.
Thanks

Cant remember the site but thought it was wildly overpriced at close to a million as a guide price. Think its 4 or 5 bedrooms

That does sound like a lot of money. Don't they know the housing market is in reverse? Maybe it wasn't when they first thought of auctioning it off. Heaven forbid that they should be greedy or anything.

I think this thread should be removed on a local forum, it doesnt feel right to list an address in public (without owners permission) as it could attract squatters etc. maybe the light has been switched on intentionally for this reason.
