I have raised this on a few occasions at the transport liaison committee which is organised by Lewisham Council and includes representatives of the bus companies. At the latest meeting they gave us their views on the possible extension of the 63.

They made a number of important points about any possible extension:
1) This is a high frequency route and would lead to significantly extra buses using Honor Oak Park.
2) Brockley Park bus stands have little additional space for the extra buses
3) Because it is a high frequency service the additional length of the route would require more buses to be assigned to this route. Theoretically this would need new buses to be purchased.

It seems unlikely for the reasons given above that any additional services would be made available. What might be possible (though still unlikely) is that a small number of the 63 buses could be extended to Brockley Rise, with the majority still turning round at Wood Vale.

The bus operators pointed out that 63 and 172 and both fast, frequent services to central London, one serves Peckham, the other serves Honor Oak. Changing either could effect capacity available and frequency.

I don't happen to agree with all the conclusions, but we have made sure the bus companies consider the possibility of extending the 63 and they do have to consider larger implications. But they may re-evaluate the situation in the future, particularly when the ELL gets to Honor Oak Park.
