I'd like to think everyone round here knows about the Albion Millennium Green - the old tennis club site acquired in 2000 to be a natural space for the people of Forest Hill and Sydenham. This evening the Friends group is meeting at 7pm at the All Inn One bar, 53 Perry Vale, SE23 2NE, and anyone who wants to know more about the Green, what the Friends group does, and how they can help is welcome to join us. You can also follow us on Twitter, @albionmilgreen

At last with this interminable winter over (we hope), activities on the Green are well underway. Despite the weather we managed to get some clearing and planting work done at the railway path entrance and buddleia and sycamore controlling measures. The work was done by volunteer members of Friends of Albion Millennium Green and by the Nature’s Gym team of workers and volunteers. A local resident has worked tirelessly to establish the pathway through the brambles at the other end of the Green. Another group of local residents carry out essential care almost every day by clearing litter and also trying to keep the dog mess to a minimum. Notices will be put up soon to ask people to take their dog mess away with them.

Increasing numbers of people are visiting the Green as the word spreads that it is a pleasant quiet spot, or a neat cut-through, so more help is needed – and more funds and resources. We have two organized work-days in the next week or so: 25th April 11am-1pm, and 27th April 10am-4pm. Please come along at any time during those hours to see what we’re up to and how you can help. Volunteers are not expected to do hours and hours of arduous work (although there’s plenty of that if you’re fit!) but any help is welcome and it will be great to see you there.

Events are advertised on the Albion Millennium Green website: the next being the LEAF festival organized by Bruno that will take place from 1st to 4th May

Also, we are included in the Chelsea Fringe Garden Festival “Edible High Road” Forest Hill trail from 18th May until 9th June, see: http://www.chelseafringe.com/

And while I get on with getting a PayPal button on the site for subscriptions and donations, here's a picture of how the wooded part of the Green was looking last week:
