Am I the only one who is annoyed at the removal of the train timetable from the main wall of the station at Forest Hill? When I questioned the sense of this at the ticket office, I was told that it had be removed from platform 1 'for other stuff'.

Part of this 'other stuff' is a poster telling us that only a few of the Southern Network stations have any disabled facilitieis. Well that's news! The fact that most disabled people would check ahead of travelling for assistance at stations and that disabled people also need to see a timetable appears to have been completely lost on the management at Forest Hill. Is this political correctness gone bonkers? If memory serves me correctly I also seem to remember a warning poster - slippery platform in the winter - or something similar stating the **** obvious.

Who is to blame for this stupidity? or is it just a cunning plan to make us believe the trains are running on time by removing the schedule Cursing

Oops - Southern get it wrong again.

It is mandatory for the operator to display timetable/posters in appropriate locations. Wonder how long it will take Southern to fulfill their obligation.

Perhaps we can have another sign put up for the mendaciously described phantom maintenance work being the reason for the omission.

Oh - and a Happy New Year to one and all.

Although not ideal and I agree it should be displayed, you can create your own at

Have to agree with you here - it is ridiculous that there are no posted timetables in the station.

If you are into conspiracies, I would say its an attempt to kill off the London Bridge to Victoria via Crystal Palace services, because without the timetables, it's not obvious they run through Forest Hill. Oh - not many people using them, let's axe them when the ELLX comes... spooky... or not.

Perhaps it's part of persuading you that we have a "turn up and go", "Metro" service?

I suppose this is almost the case at peak times - it's not really critical to turn up for a particular train.

It would probably suit them to do away with timetables, as then you can't be late! They pulled a similar fast one by adding several minutes to inbound arrival times at London Bridge - hence the trains can't be late anymore and they don't have to offer season ticket discounts. Simple, but effective...

You mean a 'turn up and wait' service.

They don't run on time anyway. So there is no point in having a timetable.

They still have the screens, don't they? With the next dozen trains or so, isn't it?

Nevermodern, I'm not sure what you mean? They still have the poster boards up on the wall (is this what you mean by screens?), but they now hold information such as 'Warning icy ground in Winter' or 'see list of stations that cannot help you if you are disabled'.

Sorry, I usually just turn up and get the next train, so I don't pay much attention, but don't they have two tvs/ monitors in the station itself with details of the next dozen or so departures/arrivals? Maybe I'm thinking of a different station!

Yes, they do - but what if I want to know what time the train to Carshalton Beeches is leaving next Tuesday? That's not up on the screen! Cursing

True. I suppose I'd use the internet or get a copy of the timetable from the desk and peruse at home Smile Can understand if people miss the wall one, though.

Ah yes, the desk - where you'll no doubt have to queue, then you'll be given a book covering all travel on the southern network - which you dont actually want. Total waste.

Yes I suppose so, but not everyone has the internet and if you're at the station and want to check the train times beyond the current hour you still need a timetable.

I got this information from Southern Railways:

"We moved them to the up platform as when the ticket hall was closed passengers couldn't see times or had to cross to the down platform.
We will put timetable posters back in the ticket hall too so that should be a good spread."

The fact that nobody noticed the timetables outside suggests that they were not best positioned and passengers generally want to see the timetable in the station. It sounds like this will be corrected.

Good news. I'm sure the timetables used to be displayed both inside the ticket hall and on Platform 1, so there's no reason why they can't be in both places.

The timetables currently on Platform 1 are displayed in the cases immediately behind the benches, so you can't get very close to them (especially if someone is sitting on the bench). Plus you wouldn't know they were there unless you wandered up and down the platform looking for them.

Fantastic logic from Southern there. They moved the timetable supposedly because some late-night bods couldn't see it. Result: nobody at all could see it!

It's interesting that even the station staff were unaware of the timetable on platform 1!
