On another thread about Cyclists, Michael has just posted a brilliant example of the Google Camera Car not appearing to stop at a zebra crossing when a pedestrian has already started to cross. And if you also follow the trajectories of the two cyclists, one appears to be a good cyclist. The other is a very, very naughty boy.

Now then, this reminded me of some little mystery I have concocted in my head about something going on in Canonbie Road. This was caught by the Google Camera Car. I’m not sure if it was before or after the Google Camera Car was seemingly attempting to run over the good citizens at Kirkdale.

This link should take you to Canonbie Road at Street View level on Google Maps at the moment in question.

It is a lovely day. Fluffy white clouds adorn a luscious blue sky. Looking ahead do you see the young lad milling about without a care in the world? He is quite easy to spot in the distance. White shirt. Hands in his pockets. Now click on the small white arrow in the picture to take you towards him. He’s looking into the gorgeous dark sports car. Now click a few more times on the same white arrow. Do you think that he has spotted the Google Camera Car?

By the time the Google Camera Car has just passed him he appears to have turned sharpishly on his heels and is walking away from the desirable car. Have a look at him again as you are descending Canonbie Road towards Netherby Road. (You will have to re-orientate yourself to check him out.) Oh, look at that. He is definitely checking us, well the Google Camera Car out, don’t you think?

Ever since I spotted this I have been pondering if the presence of the Google Camera Car may have potentially thwarted a crime? Or he could have simply been admiring a fine piece of motor vehicle engineering.

Life is a wonderful mystery. Thank you Google for an example of this.
