Have you ever seen two dogs that want to meet each other whilst on long leads? Tanglecity!!
And it's not really the same unfortunately...but that it what I will have to do if this order comes through.

I've just read the April edition of Lewisham Life which has been delivered this morning, (funny - I never received March or Feb issue).
There's a letter published asking about dog-free zones in parks and Sir Steve says that the central grassed area within Mayow Park is now dog-free and signs enforcing this will be erected soon.
How anyone can enforce this (at the moment) is another story....

Hi,
I've put some photographs up at the Sugahill Cafe on Kirkdale, including several of Mayow Park.
Any comments/feedback most appreciated...

The new under 6's play equipment has now been installed within Mayow Park, complete with extra straw cushioning. Give it a go!
This replaces the burnt-down structure and is more toddler friendly.

If you're a regular Mayow Park user, you may have seen the new posters advertising this consultation for 10-14 year olds, to give them a voice in developing their own area within the Park.
On Wednesday 27th May between 11am and 3pm (in Half Term) there will be a marquee with activities and a competition to name the area with a ipod nano prize. We are interested to hear ideas and suggestions from any 10-14yr olds. Older and younger children can come and watch too - there will be coaches from Teach Sport providing free games.
This event will be run by Lewisham's Young Mayor's Office with members of Lewisham Council, Glendale and Friends of Mayow Park helping. Please help us spread the word....

You can make it out of recycled objects if you like. There will be opportunities throughout the day to create something at the Park as well.
FOMP will have an information stall on the day - why not come and say hello?

Instead of all the call 999 drama why not speak to some of the community police officers that are always around.

This week, work has started on the new Clubhouse for the Mayow Park Bowls Club. The following text is a message from Glendale:
- The initial work will be setting up and securing the works site and disconnecting existing services and relocation of the container to the yard area.
- Removal of small self set trees and shrubs and minor pruning to one Prunus (Cherry Tree) to allow access, will follow.
- Construction of the new build will then commence along with the construction of the top surface to allow for the containers to be lifted onto site.
- The pathway running along the top side of the Bowling Green will be closed for a short period to allow for excavation for sewerage connections. Diversion signs, etc. will be in place during this time.
- The works are anticipated to last for a period of 6 weeks and finish before Christmas.
Disruption will be kept to a minimum during these works and your co-operation is gratefully appreciated. In case of emergency or if you require any information, please call Glendale Grounds Management on 020 8318 3986.

Friends of Mayow Park will be holding their Annual Tree Dressing Event, by the pavilion from 11am.
Tree dressing is the ancient & global art in which a community celebrate or commemorate something of importance to them by decorating a carefully selected tree & holding some kind of event nearby. Whether the tree is dressed with flags in Shropshire, rags in Ireland, fruit in India, red ribbons in Turkey, clothes & jewellery in Siberia or bottles in the South of France it is both a visually striking & memorable event. It would help us if you could bring any special scraps of fabric, coloured leaves, berries, paper, ribbon and glue with you.
******************************************************************************** *****
Envirowork will be organising a Christmas Fair between 11am and 4pm in their depot, (just behind the Pavilion) with Father Christmas, a local choir and market stalls. Come and talk to Envirowork about their exciting plans to create a Community Garden in this wonderful historic park. Admission is free.
If you would like a stall or are a local who wants to help out, please contact enviroworklewisham@gmail.com

POLICE have found two guns hidden in Mayow Park, Forest Hill, following a search for weapons.
A Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) for Perry Vale uncovered two bags hidden in an undergrowth area which contained two revolver-style guns inside.
One is believed to be a reactivated starter pistol which had the barrel adapted to make it usable.
The other was a normal revolver with two rounds of ammunition inside. Both were taken to Lewisham Police station for further examination.
Safer neighbourhood team member Sergeant Philip Moore said: ?All local team officers regularly carry out targeted weapons sweeps to take knives, guns, or other dangerous items off the streets of Lewisham to prevent serious violence."
The thought that there could have been loaded weapons hidden in the bushes for months, or that Mayow pk is worth regularly sweeping for arms, is very scary stuff.
And indeed the park has been pretty empty this last week.
I prefer to think that this 'targeted sweep' was in fact just part of an anonymous hand over process.
In any case, any arms left in the undergrowth for long would get sniffed out and eaten by all the large dogs that roam the park.

I am impressed the Police Support Officers made the find. I thought they were not meant to get involved with anything remotely of danger to them. Very impressive.

Oh What a miracle the police bothered to come out of their nice warm canteen and look busy ashamed we don't see them more often.

Friends of Mayow Park will be holding 2 Tree Planting ceremonies on Thursday 28th January at 2:30pm within the park. Bromley Reform Synagogue will be planting a Ginko to celebrate Tu B'shvat and FOMP will be planting a Larch for National Tree Week.
Tu B'shvat is a minor Jewish holiday in the Hebrew month of Shevat, usually sometime in late January or early February, that marks the "New Year of the Trees".
The Larch (Larix) is not only a popular choice of timber for building houses, boats and fences; it makes an attractive Bonsai and features in Episode 3 of Monty Python's Flying Circus. However, we don't promoise any deceased parrots, Lumberjacks or men with hankies on their heads on 28th Jan!

On 17 November 2009, Groundwork and Sue Morgan (Around the Block Ltd) presented the draft masterplan for Mayow Park to stakeholders which will determine the park's future for the next 10 years.
The consultation closes this Friday (29 January) and completed questionnaires (which can be downloaded from the link above) should be forwarded to Martin Hyde, Green Space Regeneration Manager at Lewisham Council (martin.hyde@lewisham.gov.uk)

It’s March and we have a new Friend of Mayow Park: our long-awaited Permanent Park Keeper!

He has worked for Glendale, Lewisham’s Park Contractors for over a year now, working with the team in Sydenham Wells Park, Telegraph Hill, Chinbrook Meadows, Blackheath and Brookmill Park. He will be working a 5 day week, during Park opening times and a collegue will be covering for the remaining 2 days a week. He will be based in the Pavilion.
