Anyone wishing to find out more about cricket in Mayow Park and how to make pitch bookings should contact the Glendale office on 020 8318 3968.
For more about Mayow Park, visit the Friends of Mayow Park Blog, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @mayowpark1
And just to explain 'Mayow Park' the user name - it's an account that I, Tim Lund, set up yesterday having volunteered to help FOMP's chairperson on their communications, and with whom the password is being shared - so it could be either of us, but more likely me. If you have any comments on Forum posts from 'Mayow Park', it will probably be better to make them either on Facebook or the Blogspot.
And a pity I didn't notice that I was automatically logged in here as 'Mayow Park' when I just posted a couple of responses on the Friends of Albion Millennium Green AGM thread

Pleased to see, in spite of the weather, that there was a game yesterday. Laurie Johnston, from one of our two home teams, Streatham & Marlborough CC,

reports that they "had a wet and windy day but narrowly defeated Catford Wanderers by 1 wicket at 7.30pm."
Full match report here, and congratulations from the Friends of Mayow Park (FOMP)
FOMP are also looking for a sports users rep. to join the committee. The main role would be to keep an ear out for what others sports users of the park might be saying about it - what they like, don't like, what could be done to improve it - and bring this to our meetings, where you'll have the opportunity to share your views with other park users and representatives of LB Lewisham and their contractors,Glendale.
If you think this could be you, pm me, or contact me by mobile, 07717207009

Is this serious?
The main field is not underused in the summer by genuinely local people -
eg families playing and people having a kick about.

Hi Perryman
I'm assuming you're saying we shouldn't be congratulating our new cricketers because their use of the main field gets in the way of families playing and people having a simple kick about. I certainly understand this, but it should be possible to handle such conflicts - it's the sort of thing we want a sports rep to help with. Cricket has also been essential to securing the funding from the refurbishment of the pavilion, which will be available to all sports. And it's very much appreciated that people having a kick about haven't damaged the cricket square.

Sorry - I am not a formal sports user.
However I've spent much time over the last 15 years with my children, throwing Frisbees, flying kites, riding bikes, running and having a kick about with them, all in the main field in our local park. And we are far from alone.
In the summer afternoons/early evening, as long as it is not snowing, there are always considerably more than 11 people enjoying that space.
There isn't much open area around here, and for those without a car, crystal palace is too far for frequent visits. How on earth it can be justified to hire the field out every summer weekend to men from Streatham -(where they kept their common) - is anyone's guess.
But we are simply unrepresented.

6 minutes to Crystal Palace, 5 minutes to Penge West from Forest Hill station.
That's faster than the walk from the station to Mayow Park, so many people in Forest Hill are closer to Crystal Palace than they are to Mayow Park.
Not that I'm criticising your use of Mayow Park, just pointing out how lucky we are to be so close to so many lovely parks, including Crystal Palace.

Equally - they don't use up the whole of the main field - I was in the park yesterday afternoon and there were families playing kickabout on the main field aswell as the cricketers - I accept your point Peryman but I would say that approximately 2/3 of the main field was in use for cricket and the rest was free for use by everyone else.

Hopefully were rather than are . Another poster on this Forum with young children has just volunteered to represent families. And even without a formal 'families' FOMP rep, improvements have been made to the children's play area on the west side of the park, and older children's / young people's area has been installed in the NE corner.
We also now have a dog walkers' rep making useful contributions to our meetings.

Tim - Yes I agree the new zip wire/rope hammock corner is very popular even in winter and a great success.
There are so many young people around here, desperate for something to do locally, so more of this please. (and a little less space and resources given to cricketers from streatham). That was or should have been the main thrust of my earlier post.

To be fair to the cricketers though Perryman - their home ground (despite the name) isn't Streatham - as I understand it their home ground is just off the South Circular near the bottom of Cox's Walk so they actually are a local team!

Another win for our home club Streatham & Marlborough - report here
Especially glad to read that yesterday
Mayow looked at its most picturesque as the game drew to a close, as we left the pair of thrushes reclaimed the square.
