Its great that this money is available but I don't think this should be announced on Lib Dem promotional material. It is a Council initiative not one instigated by any particular party as far as I'm aware. Also the last time I looked there were three ward councillors in Forest Hill ward from two different political parties.

Even though I'd looked at the blurb on the link it wasn't blatantly apparent to me that there was any political motive.
I've got no political axe to grind but surely, with £45k up for grabs and an application deadline in 3 weeks, any criticism here should be aimed at the public servants who've known about this yet haven't raised local awareness about such a fantastic opportunity.

Thats a fair point but I still don't see why its being promoted on Lib Dem paper.
Anyway, back to that fair point! The deadline however should be greater than three weeks which is an extraordinarily short time in which voluntary organisations can apply. It takes time to consider and submit bids. I would therefore argue that it is too short and not likely to promote equality of opportunity and therefore the deadline should be extended. I think all of our three councillors need to answer that one.

Anyway, if I'd known I'd have tried to get some funding to reinstate the young childrens swings at the Triangle in time for this summer. They are much needed as there is very limited play space for that particular age group ie under 3s in Forest Hill Ward. The sand pit is great but its a seasonal attraction; toddler and baby swings are very popular and should never have been completely removed. Anyone up for putting something together for this bid, even despite the very tight timescale?

I beg your pardon Roz, I thought this may have been sitting around on peoples' desks for a while and only just been publicised.

Roz, just to reassure you, the Fund is being promoted primarily through the council's own portals and will hopefully be in the local papers as well.
Cllr Peake and I are providing some extra publicity for this Fund through using our own resources, and by directing visitors to our site they can also see lots of other locally relevant information, like forthcoming planning applications, as well.
In an ideal world, we would have had more time for applications, but we were partly constrained by a change in the council's rules relating to when the Fund could be spent, so had to move earlier. Nevertheless, the view of the co-ordinating group - which includes all three councillors (all of whom were present when the decision was made) - is that three weeks is sufficient.

It's might be sufficient for an organisation which has adequate resources and information to put together a professional bid in a short timescale but not necessarily for those for whom this sort of funding is intended. I think some equalities issues are raised here.

I am looking at the possibility of an application for the toddler swing for the Triangle as well as another project relating to shop fronts.
Three weeks is not enough time for me to put together a fully costed application, or even to get the necessary buy-in from the managers of park, but I hope that local people will get the opportunity to vote for their preferred schemes, even if the costings are not fully confirmed.
Other projects have been approved and have then failed to materialise, and I think the two projects I am putting together are far less risky.
If anybody has a good idea for a project that they would like to put to the Ward Assembly, then I would encourage them to put something in as a formal application, even if not all the details are finalised at this stage.
I would also encourage as many people as possible to attend the ward assembly on 14th August to express your views on the applications that are received.

Cllr Peake and I are ... directing visitors to our site [where] they can also see lots of other locally relevant information, like forthcoming planning applications, as well.
I'm interested to know how you decide whether to put "locally relevant information" up on your own site, or a Forum such as this. I have the feeling this Forum has more readers - and certainly a livelier discussion, so I'd have thought it made more sense to post. OTOH, some of the applications aren't very interesting, and I think it's quite reasonable for you as Councillors of a particular party to want to get people to visit your site, to see what you are doing. Could you not exercise your judgment, and when there is one where there are objective reasons for thinking will be of interest, flag it up here, with a link, if Admin allows, to your own site, where people can see all the other good stuff you are doing?
Also - as I'm sure you're aware - one of the applications on your site is the subject of comment and debate on the Sydenham Town Forum. Are you able to join the discussion there?[/quote]

Swings in the Triangle would get my vote.
Unfortunately I'll be away on 14th August for the assembly meeting.

Hear Hear, Roz - I second your proposal for swings at the Horniman triangle. For non-walking toddlers/ babies it is one of few playground activities they can take part in.
Afraid I can't make the 14th of August either...

There have been a large number of applications for the Forest Hill Ward Assembly Fund which will be selected by voted on 14th August.
Applications (in no particular order):
Arts Befriending Group and Theatre project
Empty Shop Fronts
Healthy Living Workshops
Half Term games and activities
Community Choir
Training young people to fundraise
Kirkdale Village Street Beautification
Safety Rulez (Platform One)
Pop-up craft classes
Busy Bees
Shelter for the Devonshire Road Nature Reserve
Feasibility study for Open Air Theatre on Albion Millennium Green
Wildlife Hedgerow and Fencing for Albion Millennium Green
Man Digs Pond
Town Centre Planting schemes
Outdoor Table Tennis
Horniman Triangle Swings
Apologies for lack of details, it would take too long to go into each one but I am hoping that they will appear on the Lewisham website prior to the assembly.
