London Road is blocked eastbound at the Sydenham Hill junction, however you can go up the hill and turn left into Sydenham Rise to get back onto London Road and into Honor Oak Road and I assume Waldenshaw Road and Taymount Rise?

Possibly, but I wouldn't like to say definitely without trying it!

I picked this up from work...

FOREST HILL... A205 LONDON ROAD (SOUTH CIRCULAR ROAD)
Is closed both ways closed for water main work between Dartmouth Road (near Forest Hill Station) and Sydenham Hill (near Horniman Gardens).[/u]

In theaory the whole section is shut, however, the stretch of road between Sydenham Hill and Sainsburys is open to traffic enterng from side roads.

It has been closed since early Friday afternoon, and is expected to remain closed till 20th August.

Buses are diverting via Dartmouth Road, Kirkdale and Sydenham Hill, and it's affecting bus routes 176, 185, 197 and P4

Going to work this morning - from manor mount to battersea along the south circ - i saw that london road was blocked east bound at the wood vale lights at the bottom of the horniman. Cant see why they are blocking access to Honor Oak Road and Waldenshaw unless its just to discourage trucks from driving past my house?

I expect they want to divert people onto main roads and bus routes. However, by all accounts you can turn down Sydenham Rise and continue on to Honor Oak and Waldenshaw.

I assume they are not diverting people down Thorpewood Avenue either to avoid huge problems for residents. But with the diversions in place there are a series of short cuts for people who know exactly how to get through Forest Hill without passing Sainsburys.

It is a shame that, as with all such road works, they have not adjusted the traffic lights outside the station to take account of the fact that nobody is coming out of London Road.

I thought this as well, until I waited for ages to cross from Barclays to the Cummin up side and figured they must have re-timed them eastbound.
Although I agree traffic seems to be waiting too long at the station going westbound.

When I was in FH around 1045 this morning there didn't appear to be a green phase for (non-existent) traffic from London Road. The lights at FH station only appeared to be going red to allow pedestrians to cross. Looks like someone has made some sensible adjustments.

Worryingly, there didn't appear to be any work going on to get the sewer problem fixed. There were a few workmen around at 0950 but they had all disappeared by 1045.

There is a single no left turn sign on Honor Oak Road at the lights but it was being ignored by traffic turning left and then cutting through Waldenshaw Road. This provided me with a route to Sainsbury's car park - although that was very quiet.

They have retimed them – at least, the northbound green from Dartmouth Road is certainly a lot longer.

Living on Dartmouth as I do, the traffic impact isn't as bad as I feared when I got back from a week away on Friday to find the South Circ blocked off. Bad, yes, but not that bad. I think much of the eastbound South Circ traffic that knows the area is carrying on through Sydenham and up Perry Hill to rejoin in Catford, thereby missing the often-congested Blythe Hill section anyway.

Where they then get caught in the roadworks in Sydenham Road at the junction of Kent House Road. Single line traffic which is taking about 5/10 mins to get through.

Incidentally, Lordship Lane was handling the traffic well at 0840 this morning, the traffic was at not at rushhour levels towards Hornimans and Sydenham Hill and Kirkdale were quiet. I couldn't be bothered to walk this morning and commuted to Sydenham station and back up to LL.[/quote]

Apparently (according to Twitter) businesses on London Road are suffering with the road closed, despite the significant improvement to the street with no cars.

Shall we have a street party on Sunday? We could all decend on some of the businesses for lunch / tea time and have a picnic on the South Circular!

I took a 185 home via the diversion on Sunday night & two differing people were really really offensive to the driver when he refused to stop at bus stops further up Dartmouth Road.

They really didn't seem to have a clue as to how bus diversions normally work & decided swearing loudly & continuosly at the driver was the only option.

Stopping at bus stops on the diversion route is at the discression of the driver unless he's been instructed by TfL to stop on the route.

Incidentally the 176 I was on yesterday stopped at the bus stops in Kirkdale and Sydenham Hill, the latter so people could get to Hornimans.

But it's extremely inconsiderate of bus operators not to take this into account. Particularly on a route like the 185. There are few enough stops on Kirkdale and Dartmouth anyway - surely BUSES ON DIVERSION STOP HERE signs at some of the ones there are wouldn't kill anyone. People often live near bus routes but not on them.

In today's SLP, BK's newsagent on London Road has lost 80% of their regular takings. Also at least £1k per day lost in Oyster top-ups.

Normal service on the P4 with a slight detour via Sydenham Hill/Rise, but is serving all bus stops.

It's currently the only bus route serving Horniman Museum.

Michael
Yes, we should have a street party. I was thinking between Lemon Grove and The Teapot? But are they both open on Sunday?

We could bring chairs, spend money in the cafe's or bring a picnic and enjoy the town centre as quiet as its ever going to be in daylight!!

Who's up for it?
