In a bid against the sea of grey, anonymous, characterless, unremarkable, nondescript and faceless buildings of nothingness that property developers are inflicting on London in a seeming frenzy, (for example the very, very, sad sorry site and sight of The Greyhound in Sydenham). Thumbdown

I am just raising awareness and wondering if anyone (else) has seen the proposed planning notice and demolition on Dacres Road of a wonderful building which is full of character and whose presence and architecture will be surely missed. Unless objection is raised, I fear it is likely to follow the fate of its twin which was demolished a few years ago. To quote Oscar Wilde : "To lose one was a misfortune to lose both would surely, at the very least, appear as carelessness."

I happened to be walking past today and saw one sign outside the house. I am a life-long resident. I have not been sent a notice of planning even though I live close by and have been unable to access the planning website despite trying all day???

For those who may be interested in raising any objections/comments the application and any plans submitted may be inspected quoting reference :

DC/1592092

http://planning.lewisham.gov.uk/online-a...=firstPage

or by visiting the Planning Information Office, Catford Library, Laurence House, 1 Catford Road, SE6 4RU

Or via email to planning@lewisham.gov.uk

All applications must be received on or before 2 October 2015.

Just slightly over a week, so not much time!

This photo is from google maps and shows the building on the left Number 31 Dacres Road, to the right shows the block of flats built replacing the original house.

Thanks.

More details here (along with other buildings that are being demolished locally-ish).

None seem to have any details of what replaces them.

It is an odd building now positioned between two blocks of flats. That's not to say it is not a nice house, although it looks like it has seen better days.

Across the road there are some lovely houses which have been well maintained, but this is not a conservation area so there is little protection for such properties.

This is a different situation from the house in Sunderland Road, which remains part of a terrace and which was not granted permission to demolish and build something different as it would be out of keeping with the character of the street. I don't think such a case could be made for 31 Dacres Road.

What will be more important is what the replace building is in terms of how it fits with surrounding buildings (i.e. height) and the quality of accommodation. Sadly that does allow for the possibility of another 'grey, anonymous, characterless, unremarkable, nondescript and faceless building of nothingness', but I hope not.

Very shocking to see so many houses under demolition, if we are not careful in a few years time London will be unrecognisable.

With streets all looking like this - or worse:
