We had the recent experience of no lift plus a pushchair. We left it plus nappy bag downstairs having been assured that the security guard would look after it but on return there was no one around, so anyone could have taken it/gone through the bag. I had to stand upstairs in a queue with my 22 pound baby for some time however was offered a seat in the end .To be fair someone did offer to carry it up and down but I did not feel that was fair on them.

This lift is nothing more than a raised platform which relies on simple mechanics to get it working. They have this at Kings and many shops to get around accessiblity issues. It should not be so unreliable however perhaps it is just not meant to be used quite so much on a regular basis.

The fact however remains that such a public service should not be placed somewhere so inaccessible however many would argue at least it means the service is retained rather than lost.

I am not clear what the alternatives are or indeed whether we have any although the best place for the post office counters is always at ground floor level.
