For weeks now, I have been trying to get Lewisham or TFL to repair a fallen lamppost on London Rd (South Circular) at its junction with Honor Oak Rd opposite the Tesco/Esso Garage. It was obviously knocked down by a vehicle at least a couple of months ago. It was sawn off and tapped around with bright yellow tape as it is still presumably still live. There are also cones around it to mark it. Despite attempts via Fix My Street to get it repaired nothing seems to happen as there is presumably a jurisdiction problem between Lewisham and TFL. What worries me is that this is still presumably live and a danger to children and others. Why is it that jobs just get half done then just left. Lewisham Councillors can you help please as no one else seems to be doing anything!

Why do you assume it is live? If the post has been sawn off, I can't imagine anyone doing that without turning off the electricity.

Generally they would disconnect and make safe, then use their generic 'live' tape to cover up the sharp edges from the angle grinding.

That's not to say they haven't messed up, but as a rule, it wont be live.

That's just the problem isn't it. We just don't know. Why is it just left anyway?

Is it this one?
If so I will harass TfL about it asap.

As for why its left, things like this that don't have an immediate impact will be low priority, especially in the current economic climate. Im sure there is a plan to get it sorted, but would be nice to know whats going on with it.

OK I shall give all those in the know a bit of a battering on Twitter and see what they come up with.

You can report it on TFL

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/reportas...20568.aspx

That page takes roadworks, road defects and street lighting and they pass it along to the right people.

I've reported a few things via it (potholes and missing bollards on traffic islands) and all have been fixed in a few days. Those fixes might have been coincidence and in the pipeline anyhow but can't do any harm.

Thank you Applespider. I have now reported it on this site as well. Let us see if anything happens![/i]

It makes you wonder how many lighting engineers it takes to replace a lampost! One team has put up the new lampost and straightened the stump of the damaged one about 75cm away and put new safety tape around it. Why couldn't they just remove it there and then? Now another team has got to come out and remove it and restore the new tarmac. No wonder works for public bodies cost so much and it is we the public who have to pay for it!
