The tree outside the station looks really lovely, with decorations as well as lights. Congrats and a big thank you to all involved.

I've been complaining elsewhere about the state of the lights and the tree in Sydenham. Our southerly neighbours could learn from FH how to properly display some festive cheer.

Funding was provided by Winkworths for the tree, the lights are standard from Lewisham council. But a few years ago the Forest Hill Society decided that the tree needed a bit of tarting up, and we now have our own baubles that we bring out every year.

It didn't cost a lot to purchase the decorations but it is the type of small difference that we are able to make with the money received from membership fees and donations to the Society.

We have had a lot of new people join up in 2012 but we want more. Each £5 annual membership enables us to do small things like decorate the tree, but also to spend money on gazebos that got the market off the ground (once or twice quite literally until we purchased the weights for the gazebo feet).

So before all your money is spent on food and gifts in our fabulous local shops, please consider directing a fiver our way so that we can make Forest Hill an even better place.

All the details are at: http://www.foresthillsociety.com/p/membership.html
