For those of you who may have missed my recent article in se23 magazine, here is more info on Lewisham's new waste contract and the additional items that can now be recycled

Thanks, Cllr Wise for the update.
Since you do not mention expanded polystyrene, the white packing material much used for fragile electronic equipment, then can we assume that it should be put into the ordinary (black) bin for incineration. I know it is one of the most difficult materials to recycle, but the actual amount of polystyrene in a great big block of the stuff is really very small.
Not to be confused with ordinary polystyrene which widely used in CD cases etc. which I guess should be recyclable under the new contract.
The serious recyclers among us are now faced with the problem of a very small amount of other rubbish that looks rather lost in the bottom of the black bin: are there plans to replace these with smaller bins eventually?

I tried putting polystyrene packing blocks in my green bin last week - I put them on the top sticking out so the bin men could reject them if need be, and they did. Hoiked them out and left them on my drive. They went in the black bin this week.
