For those who are not familiar with the Londonist, it is a website related to London information and things to do in London - both aimed at residents rather than tourists.

The also have a youtube channel and two of their recent videos related to Crystal Palace:

The Crystal Palace and South London Junction Railway
Inside the Crystal Palace Subway

Thanks, I have often craned my neck over the parapet hoping for a good view but I didn't realise quite what I was missing. I suppose if Boris's Chinese friends ever get to build their plastic palace on the site of the old Crystal Palace the subway is more likely to be reopened but at what price?

Laudable that the Friends would want to use it as an arts space but to be honest I think it would make a fabulous bar and a perfect place to end up after a walk round the park.

When I was a kid I used the subway regularly on my route Crystal Palace National Sports Centre to go swimming, if it was dark on my way back and if I was on my own,
I would always sprint through the pitch black subway until I reached the wooden staircase that used to take you down to the old high level station site.

In today's news: "The secret subway of Crystal Palace 'set to reopen'"

It does look absolutely stunning.

New Metro article: There’s a secret subway under London and soon you’ll be able to visit

Quote:
The Friends of Crystal Palace Subway now want to re-open the Grade II vaulted walkway to the public.

They’re trying to raise £50,000 so that people can enjoy the incredible architecture of the tunnel.
