Perhaps we should do what they used to do in one street in Brockley -close it and hold a barbecue in the middle of the road!

Sounds like a great idea Sherwood, who doesn't like a barbecue (well except vegetarians)
sorry for the belated reply to your answer Snazy, the cars were parked on the newly opened part of the road, mainly the opposite side of the underpass (but were both sides) they ware parked all along the road going around the bend. I walk in the other direction so not sure how much further they parked pass the bend.

I am not a fan of the new road layout from a driver's point of view that is.
they have made that bend far to sharp if you come from forest hill down towards perry rise,
its always been a bad bend but i feel its now alot worse.
if a boy racer hits that at speed i don't want to be the one coming up the other way.

I'd agree with Eddy that the bend tightens up alarmingly more quickly than it used to, but now that I know it's there, I can adjust speed accordingly.
However, as a traffic calming measure, it's of no use at all to those who don't regularly travel that route, because it is unexpected and I don't think there are any "sharp bend" warning signs to allow drivers to prepare. I won't be surprised to see accidents .... An own goal, I think!

I thought it would not be long before the lovely new pavement would be dug up by a utility but I did not think it would be so soon.
They had dug up 3 sections I believe to activale the 3 new street lights. Asking why this was not done before the pavement was finished is obvious question , but is it ?
I shall be checking how they relay the paving.

oh eddy your so right, i almost got a head on last night on that bend.
i was coming up the road towards forest hill and this pillock in a bmw x5 came flying round that bend and lost it, if i did not make a quick move almost mounting the pavement i would not be here moaning about.
signs are needed or are they ? will people read them before its too late.
maybe a big red flashing sign that states slow down you idiot before you kill someone.

Sadly I dont think "anti stupidity" signs work.
ALL drivers should be driving with due care, its not a hidden or sudden "sharp" bend at either end of the road, just different. And there are signs suggesting "new road layout ahead"
Some people will always drive like idiots, spending extra money on signs to warn them of their impending doom is almost pointless.

I don't know if something has been done about the cars but as I was walking and driving past this weekend there seemed to be no cars parked illegally. Either the taxi firm was incrediably busy or people are taking notice.

Hmm not seen cars parked along there, but it appears some cab drivers have decided to use the tactile paved area as a drop off point now, driving RIGHT up onto the pavement so not to obstruct the road (just the pavement)
Gonna start taking pics of them and posting them up I think
Then we can ask Lewisham to look into fining them.

Well done Snazy

Not sure what Snazy means by "tactile" but I noticed a Ford Focus parked right up on the pavement at the corner of Waldram Place and Perry Vale this morning.
This is exactly the sort of thing Lewisham ought to be stopping - I actually sent the people at traffic@lewisham.gov.uk a pic of it. Felt slightly guilty about doing so, but what else can we do?

The 'tactile' paving is the bit with little bobbles on it so that blind people can tell where the crossing is.

Cheers for the happy, thats the bit I mean.
David, i think thats the only way the matter will get taken seriously. Sad to reach that level, but what else can you do.

It seems I spoke too soon, they were parked all the way around the bend last night and I could see an accident ready to happen.

Noticed this morning a vehicle has crashed into the railings outside the school. Must have been some crash as railings have been totally
bashed in.If and kiddies had been on other side would certainly have been hurt
Hope no one else hurt . Too be honest assuming the driver drunk or driving like Louis Hamilton little sympathy for them and they should be made to cough up medical bills.
Who is paying for the replacement railings ?

I think I was a bit hard in my earlier post. I do not know the full facts ( any facts actually).
I hope no one seriously hurt.

Saw it on Saturday, looks like the Astra took the corner at speed and didnt make it. For it to still be poking out of the fence and police involved I would say drunk driver or stolen.

I lived in Vale Lodge for a long time and there seemed to be an accident of some kind on that corner, almost every week, mostly however affecting the Vale Lodge wall which was frequently being demolished and rebuilt. At one time a car somersaulted over the wall and landed in the front garden.
Its been only a matter of time until the school was affected and it is a blessing that the railings were there to absorb the impact, and of course, that it happened at the weekend. Hopefully there will be a proper investigation and perhaps some further speed reduction measures, if that was indeed the reason for the crash.

Thanks for the explanation but the point of impact seems quite a way from the corner. I assume you are saying car came from Fire Station end and crossed the carriageway. Thanks god no children outside school.
