The proposed closure of ticket offices at Overground stations including Surrey Quays, Rotherhithe and Honor Oak Park will not go ahead following a U-turn.

TfL and Mayor Sadiq Khan have pledged an additional £5m in funding to keeping the ticket offices open following a backlash from the RMT union, which led a campaign against the changes, announced last September.

RMT General Secretary, Mick Cash hailed the reversal as a “significant victory,” saying it was proof trade union campaigning works.

At some quieter stations, ticket offices will be open a minimum of 7.30 – 10am Monday to Friday, and longer where customer demand is over 12 transactions an hour, said the Mayor’s office.

The exact times for each of the stations will be confirmed following consultation with trade unions.

Woo-hoo. Some good-ish news. We'll see what the detail suggests for ticket office staffing times.
An outbreak of common sense of a kind which is becoming increasingly rare.
Why would you call it common sense? I haven't used a ticket office in years and even when I have they just tend to tell me to phone a number.
Machines are available in a lot of languages - there is no need to keep these offices open for workers to sit around doing nothing
Because unmanned stations are obviously less safe than manned ones.
Less safe for the passengers or the staff? The staff in Forest Hill hide the instant they can if they are feeling friendly they phone the police.
