Maybe we could have an organised SE23 'run and jump', all holding hands? I am sure some people would sponsor some of us to take a running jump

I had another look at the Victorian facade the other day. I still think it looks very heavy, gloomy and institutional (although not quite as much as Louise House next door) but I guess it would be improved if the brickwork were cleaned and something done to cheer up the window frames. I wonder whether that is going to happen before the grand opening?

I heard in Rob the barber's that they weren't going to clean the facade but now they are. The windows look really cheap and nasty. I'm sure they could have done slightly better there. Still I'm really pleased with what they've achieved. I love the Forest Hill Pools sign and the wave logo.

If you heard it in Rob's, it must be true! He knows everybody and everything in FH. He told me the other day that his is the oldest established shop in Dartmouth Road - been there since 1970, apparently.

Wasn't it Rob who was telling everyone a few weeks ago that the pools were going to be delayed until October because of major problems...?

A woman down the road was told that it was going to be delayed and I got told they weren't going to clean it. The woman in Rob's then put the record straight on both. I guess he is only passing on the latest information he's been told, not being an employee of willmott dixon or fusion....

I really hope it will open for the summer holiday.
Imagine a smiley with fingers crossed.

I disagree - I think it clutters up the look of the new building (which I admire). And why did they have to use that noisy and aggressive upper case lettering?
Still, at least you can't see it until you get right in front of the building. At one time I thought they were going to put it on the side wall, thus wrecking the view of the new block viewed from the FH end of Dartmouth Road.

I'm not a fan of the sign, the wave bit is clumsy and unnecessary. But there is nothing wrong with capital letters on buildings. Why do you think it's noisy and agressive Robin? Lots of shops, pubs and buildings have uppercase letters. Lewisham's Library sign is uppercase and looks great. Billings is uppercase and you haven't said anything against about that.
 I LOVE CAPS.

I like the building too, especially the juxtaposition between old and new (which is what the Horniman have done to great effect), although I hope they clean the victorian buildings.

I can't wait to dust off my speedos. Now if you are talking about something noisy and agressive Robin, I'd pick those. ;-)

 Grrrrrrrrr!

Res ipsa loquitur, Lee.

But if you want me to spell it out, upper case is BULLYING, OLD-FASHIONED and AUTHORITARIAN. Or OBSESSIVE and PARANOID - POISON PEN LETTERS are usually, I'm told, written in block capitals (AND often in GREEN INK.) Lower case on the other hand is civilised, informal and democratic.

I didn't do Latin as I only went to a comprehensive.
I trust your post is satire sir, although it goes over my head. I'm more of a Two Ronnies fan rather than Hinge & Bracket.

Caps can also be EXUBERANT! And EXCLAMATORY! Both seem fine to me for a sign on a building. I like it.

I think Robin would have prefered calligraphy. They could call it "Ye olde pooled at forest hyll"

Apparently, the builders like to tell Rob all sorts... (Or so I've been told - by the builders
  )...

Can I ask what has happened on the meeting yesterday? What was in the update?

I wasn't able to go as I had prior arrangement that could not change.

Something worse according to James Joyce, who absolutely hated punctuation and I think would have preferred his works to have none at all. He called quote marks: perverted commas.
