Hi, Just to advise (courtesy of our neighbours SE26.com) that there are no Overground or rail trains on our line to/from London Bridge or Canada Water, on both Saturday and Sunday.

So it is railbus (or buses like 176, P12 etc if you are heading into London). It seems that Southeastern appear to be running a full service from Penge East/Sydenham Hill & Lower Sydenham.

While we have the trains back on Bank Holiday Monday and to London Bridge this time round, it's worth noting that there are no trains to Waterloo East and Charing Cross from London Bridge with all Southeastern trains diverted to Cannon Street. There is a shuttle service to Charing Cross operating every 15 mins from CS.

I'm not sure if this is still the case, but this morning, bus stops were out of use on London Road outside the The Capitol, and across the road outside the newsagent. (Roadworks)

Yup, right after they freshly painted the extremely bright double red lines along the road, they've dug it up again. You'd almost think they could co-ordinate these things.

Note that rail replacement buses are FREEEEEEE!

A good opportunity to take the family to the Southbank for a day out on a lovely day and we saved about a tenner.

From TfL:
LONDON OVERGROUND: Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Bank Holiday Monday 26 May, no service between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate / Clapham Junction / New Cross, or between Sydenham and Crystal Palace. Replacement buses operate.

The whole line between NXG and here is closed every full weekend in May, except for May 31st. The combination of works at London Bridge, the platform extension works on the ELL and the normal timetable of replacing track on our section of the line doesn't help.

Remember that 'no service between Sydenham and Crystal Palace' does not actually mean 'no service between Sydenham and Crystal Palace', but 'no trains scheduled to run to or from Crystal Palace will run on any part of their journey'.

This is because TfL are liars who think we're all stupid.

The TFL planner suggested the P4 to Ladywell, connecting for fast trains to London Bridge and Charing X this weekend, which worked really well, except they are only every 30 mins.

I went to Denmark Hill on the bus and caught the Overground from there last week where trains were still operating.

We used the 171 to go to New Cross and picked up the Overground from there on Sunday.

For the return journey we went to Canada Water and tried to use the replacement bus service. It was a shambles - poor signage, inconsistent announcements and when we eventually found a rail replacement bus, it was terminating at New Cross Gate, where a bus full of people was decanted onto the narrow and crowded pavement to wait for a second rail replacement bus (for the same line, remember).

Genuinely surprising given the generally high standard of service from the Overground, but I guess they don't have that much experience (yet) of running rail replacement buses.

The rail replacement buses which serve FH/HOP are operated on behalf of Southern by Go-Ahead London.

With the exception of one day over the festive period last year, it's Southern who are charge of the buses when the Overground is shut between NXG and West Croydon/Crystal Palace.

London Overground are responsible for rail replacement buses north of New Cross/Gate and on the South London Line to Clapham Junction.

Thanks. The point where we tried to pick up the service was Canada Water (and then Surrey Quays).

The service was appalling. The communication to customers was non-existent. Station announcements were inconsistent.

This was all north of New Cross/New Cross Gate and long before anyone stepped on a bus.

This was a failure of London Overground - not Southern or Go Ahead.

Got too depressed to look any further than that.

This is all to do with extending platforms to alow for an additional carriage on the overgrounnd I think.
