I would just like to say that Councillor Paschoud is not giving anyone the runaround re the Old Fire Station and its proposed future. At our meeting of Mayor and Cabinet on 09/07/08, the decision of which became effective on 23/07/08, this property, along with some others, was declared surplus to Lewisham Council's requirements in order to assist our WorkSmart programme. However, although this disposal will be for the best price reasonably obtainable, after concerns raised by some cabinet members, including myself, the Mayor made the decision that a report shall be brought to Mayor and Cabinet on each proposed disposal before a disposal is made, which obviously includes the Old Fire Station. I hope this clears up any concerns.

Susan, can you confirm if the fire station is a listed building, ie the new owners could not just demolish it? I'm sure most local residents like myself would not want to see it go.

Is there a list of properties to be disposed of by the council?

I looked at the Mayor & Cabinet meeting of July 9 but could only find mention of Parker House.

Sorry for the delay in replying on this, but the report for 09/07/08 on the disposal of the old Fire Station, Perry Vale, was on the "pink" confidential papers which are discussed when press and public are excluded at Mayor and Cabinet, so it is only the title that is on the agenda for that meeting. At some point, as yet unknown, a further report will be made to Mayor and Cabinet on the proposed disposal.

Thank you for the reply.

Considering its been publicly confirmed the old fire station is on the list why is the list confidential. Are there anymore publicly owned buildings in SE23 on the list?

Would I be correct in saying if a member of the public had not talked to a cleaner the possible disposal of a public building would have only been made public after a decision had been made?

There are also a number of significant empty public buildings around the borough which have been described as community assests, is it likely they would also be on the list?

---------------
Out of interest, are the pink papers only for cabinet members eyes only or do all councillors see them. Would you know if those papers are ever made public say in 30 years time?

The Old Fire Station now has a sign on it saying it will be sold at auction on 10 December. http://www.ccreauctions.co.uk I haven't been able to find any details of the building on the website (yet).

so there goes another one of forest hills publicly owned buildings.
now i do hope that lewisham will put the peanuts they let it go for to good use.

I don't know maybe some wild idea like help funde the pools Blush
I just hope the new owner don't want to knock it down as that would be a big mistake for foresthill to lose that much history.

funny how all this has been kept very quite and under hand by lewisham.

Not a lot of information though, and no guide price.

Looks like the Old Fire Station didn't sell at the auction yesterday, as it's listed as available in the auction results: http://www.ccreauctions.co.uk/DesktopMod...aspx?ID=82

you are correct it did not sell
looks like we will have another empty building left to rot till its sold or falls down,

it will end up like Louise House and the pools

Extract from Colliers CRE auction document:

"The Old Fire Station is a significant grade II listed building situated between Dulwich and Sydenham on the Perry Vale road (B227) linking the South Circular (A205) to the A21 which in turn connects the area to junction 4 of the M25."

It is also described having "access to the rear of the property from Wollstone (sic) Road.

Given the nature of these significant innacuracies in the narrative describing the building's location, it might not be considered surprising that potential purchasers could not locate it, never mind buy it.

Perhaps LB Lewisham should seek redress in terms of a refund of professional fees or, even better, invest in an up-to-date A-Z to check the accuracy of information being issued by agents on its behalf.

"between Dulwich and Sydenham" and "..(B227) linking..South Circular to the A21" - (Ed - shurely shome mishtake).

I guess it should read 'linking the A205 to the A21 via the A212 and the A2218'.

The Old Fire Station is up for auction again:

http://auctions.savills.co.uk/lond_Curre...sp?pos=157

Lot 157, Savills auction, Tuesday 16 February 2010. Guide price £400,000+.

There are set viewing times (1.45pm on Thurs 11 Feb and Sat 13 Feb if anyone is interested!). According to local intelligence (ie my mum) at least two sets of people have already looked at it.

Bet it goes way over, though. 'Tis a lovely building.

The last property auction we were at - the guide prices were way off - most lots were going for 2-3 times the guide price listed ........... so I'd guess it would go for a price closer to £1m.
