just to let the fh community know.

lewisham will be pulling out of foresthill old fire station in perry vale later in the month
they have plans to or already have sold the building off for " Redevelopment " this could mean just about anything even this old grade 2 listed building being pulled down.

with forest hill pool and louise house under the demolition hammer, i have to wonder when will lewisham council stop Crying

at this rate forest will not have any local history left.

thanks for the warning, that is interesting news

I know that nerves are a little raw at the moment because of the situation at the pools, but there is no reason to assume they will just let this building be demolished. It is more likely that it will be retained and converted.

I think conversion would probably be best, after all, what else could we do with it so as to retain it and have some chance of accessing it?

As it is listed, I assume there will be information somewhere if permission has been granted for development. Does anyone have any ideas where?

I think that's fantastic news. I have long thought that it looked neglected so the best thing that could happen to it is some kind of redevelopment.

If it's a Grade II listed building then English Heritage will be heavily involved to ensure that whatever aspects of the building are listed will be preserved. You only have to look at the Capitol to see a good example of listed buildings in the area being well preserved. You may not like the pub but at least the building looks good and is in use.

EH really does have teeth when it comes to ensuring that listed building consents are complied with and generally will not hesitate to make sure that breaches are enforced.

We really shouldn't all jump to conclusions every time the word redeveloment is mentioned! frankly, it should be viewed as a good thing that the building is going out of the hands of Lewisham Council!

The standard practice to avoid restoring a listed building is to let it fall into disrepair then say it would cost too much to keep it. Therefore, it needs to be demolished.

no its still lewisham office staff in that place..
my last trip to that building was three weeks ago.
nice old building really , only downstairs still in use, but lewisham have let it rot as normal.
think the outside looks bad you want to see inside..
such a shame the way lewisham have let it go as thats part of history.

Maybe it might be with Lewisham, but don't tranish all developers with the same brush. I know plenty of developers who look after listed buildings and do whatever they can as they think that they add value to their development.

There is a proper process to go through before the building can be demolished, it must be demonstrated if the building cannot be re-used aor refurbished, so maybe we should wait for that report?

Its not that easy to just demolish a listed building, it is actually a very complicated and difficult process......I shall watch with intrigue as the plans emerge.

It's quite easy in Lewisham actually, look at the pools.

Anyone can phone the Planning Office of Lewisham Council and ask if 'Planning Permission' has be sought for 'Ye Olde Fire station' and/or possible demolition. I personally don't think they will tear it down, not the front anyway. Someone start a petition. Phone English Heritage and ask them for their information on the subject. And please don't suggest I do it, I do research for a living and so don't want to do it in my time off.Huh

I asked Councillor John Paschoud about the Old Fire Station a couple of weeks ago. He said it had been put on the disposals list (which would need to be agreed at a meeting the name of which I've forgetten) but that he had asked that it be taken off the list because he was trying to get an idea off the ground to use the building as a centre for young people. He didn't know whether the list had been submitted with or without the Old Fire Station on it.

It sounds as though it's still early days for disposing of the building, so it's unlikely they'll have any developers lined up yet.

As far as i aware that building has already been sold
so i think its unlikely to be a cantre for young people.
last time i checked CIS were in there clearing out the old lewisham stuff, in fact i saw alot of people going in and out that building only last night.
Mr John Paschoud might be giving you the run around which is lewisham speak for we are not going admit anything.
or he may just not know whats going on.
