Four fire appliances in attendance, at least that many ambulances, police. Fire engines reversed up from the bend as far as Loxton to turn round. Not sure what happened.

Thanks. Presumed it must have been a vehicle accident. Too much parking on that bend makes it blind. Hope all recover.

Quite an imaginative choice of photos by the paper - as far as I recall it was dark at 7.57pm and it doesn't look like any part of Cranston Rd that I know!

Cranston Road has a 20mph limit - if drivers stuck to that, there wouldn't be many (any?) collisions. Not sure the crash was caused by too much parking, what do others think?

Doesn't surprise me. I often cycle down there on the way to work, and it is very rare that a car does not trigger the 'slow down 20' sign coming down the hill. Not only this, but the speeding cars often swerve onto the other side of the road to avoid the traffic calming measures (not sure what they are called - road cushions or something) which can be quite unnerving if you are coming the other way.

One day when the queue of traffic was backed up to the A205, I saw a car drive up onto the footpath and along for 10-15 metres to turn off onto Loxton Road.

I think that seeing as there are bay creators at various points along Cranston Road, they could be used to improve visibility on that bend/crest. Agree that speed (especially travelling northbound) is a problem too.

(Ryananglem, I live on the other side of the road, between the flashing 20 sign and Loxton Road, so have a great view of such nonsense as you describe Smile )

On more than on occasion I have been driving north on Cranston Road at the posted 20mph limit as I approach home and to my absolute amazement have been overtaken by people who have clearly such important lives that driving at less than breakneck speeds won't get them to their important appointments on time.

As I have looked as these miscreants as they drive past I see so much anger on their faces as if I've asked for their firstborn rather than just been driving at the stated speed limits.

Given the terrible driving habits of some of our fellow motorists I'm surprised that there aren't more accidents.

One of the problems specific to Cranston Road is that whilst it is not a B road it joins into a cross roads with the South Circular and Brockley Rise, which are A and B roads, and provides a direct route down to Bell Green shopping. In the five years that I've lived here I believe (although only anecdotal opinion) that there has been an increase in traffic, including heavier good vehicles along this road.

I've been on CR just over two years. Can't say I've noticed more speeding (was always pretty bad) but the tailbacks from Stanstead have got worse, and I agree there does seem to be more large traffic around lately. There appear to be several weekends when it's a designated route for not-in-service buses, this one just gone being one of them.

Incidentally, when it rains heavily, the tarmac on Loxton Road reveals the old markings, suggesting that it used to be right turn only into Cranston. Was it one way? When did that end?

For a short period of time there were major road works on Cranston Road between Loxton and the traffic lights making that part of the road one way going away from the lights. You could turn left into Cranston from Loxton for residential access.

I would say that traffic has been heavy for a number of years now, although there do seem to be less lorries coming down.
