Good. I hate that bit of bus lane, especially when the traffic's bad and I'm going to Sainsbury's! Hope there's not a camera there, or I might be getting a little something in the post soon...

It would appear that a car somehow mounted the pavement and demolished a garden wall this in London Road around 12.30pm this afternoon. The police were there interviewing the driver including a London Transport vehicle which makes me think a bus had been involved? It didn't look as if anyone had been hurt fortunately as no ambulance on the scene. It would be interesting to hear how this happened as the car was facing in the opposite direction to oncoming traffic.

That wall gets knocked down every other month or so by drivers who come down the hill too quickly. I was not at all surprised to see the car in that position as you did. We live near by and turning right into Taymount Rise from London Road always feels uncomfortable because you really feel someone will plough into the back of you while you wait to cross the London Road traffic. It's all made worse by the really busy turning off London Road oposite Taymount Rise to get to Sainsburys car park. I have mainly seen incidents with cyclists there.

Anyway, a year or two ago we got something through the door saying that they (I can't remembr but it must have been from the council) were planning to alter the road lay out down there. At the time we didn't have a car, but now we have I am really getting impatient to see this happen or hear more about it.

Also, I am now very wary of waiting at that bus stop! I can't remember the number of times the wall has been re-built there!

TFL were there because the car demolished the bus stop.

What can be done to make this area safer then?

That TfL get their finger out and implement the proposal as circulated over a year ago!

Was round the corner when it happened so didnt see it but did see the immediate aftermath. I wouldnt like to be the police taking witness statements as whilst I was there a small crowd gathered with about 5 people calling the police at the same time. Someone asked where the driver was and a "witness" said he had legged it. A lady next to the "witness" said rubbish, you are standing next to himRolleyes

There was no bus involved but potentially a bit of excessive speed judging from the skid marks and the fact that the car was looking to do a 360 skid only to be stopped by the drivers side rear of the car hitting the bus stop.

One lady waiting for a bus did sum that stretch of the road up by saying she always waits for the bus on Waldenshaw Road because of the sheer number of vehicles crashing there.

I don't agree with any proposal to get rid of this bus stop and, if they were consulted, neither would the bus users who get on or off buses here. Not everyone has access to a car. The bus stop used to be located slightly further up London Road, away from the junction with Waldenshaw Road. Suggest TfL should reconsider its location.

the bus stop should be removed before someone gets killed waiting for a bus.when the bus stop was located further up london rd the same thing happened several times at that location too.maybe a speed camera might slow things down even the buses speed approaching the pedestrian crossing.

It's just not possible for TfL to relocate the Waldenshaw Road bus stop. It will either be too close to the Horniman Rd stop or the Sainsburys stop.

If I was working for TfL, I would remove the bus stop before a fatal collision between a car and someone waiting at the stop occurs. People can get off at Hornimans and walk downhill to WaldenShaw Road. What's that, an extra two minutes?

Of course, we already have a large gap between bus stops in Forest Hill. There are no stops between the library/swimming pool and Barclays on Dartmouth Road. It's an inconvenience for us passengers, but we live with it.

Muss,
That is exactly what they are planning to do, and have been planning to do so for a year. See discussion at http://www.se23.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=913

Another car accident on the corner of London Rd and Waldenshaw last night. Don't know what happened, but I heard the smash and saw the car stopped at an angle after turning into Waldenshaw.

How many more accidents before they implement the proposed changes?

Jalepeno that was a Mondeo smashing into a Range Rover as they both turned left from the London Road into Waldenshaw Road. The Range Rover stopped to let a Volvo come out of Waldenshaw Road, the Mondeo didnt stop and did a very good DIY modification job[/align] on his car.

As another member on here said to me "hopefully that will discourage him from speeding down the rat run", I happen to agree with them on that one.

I generally agree that some right turn lanes are needed, however as I often turn right out of Taymount Rise I wonder how possible this will be under this new arrangement? I am worried that people crossing at the refuge won't look over the road before stepping out and it is not always possible to see whether someone is about to do that?

As far as I can see there is no other way of getting to the east of Forest Hill if going right becomes impossible?

It looks as though these changes will be made fairly soon. The preliminaries have started - they're moving the post box today. The post box will now be located on the other side of Waldenshaw Road, nearer Sainsbury's because of the new pedestrian refuge and the need for postie to be able to stop nearby.

Great. So where it would have been safer to cross to post a letter because of the pedestrian refuge, this benefit now disappears due to the need to dodge cars turning left into Waldenshaw Rd. Would have been better if they had moved the box right down to the alley to the Sainsbury's car park, so that it was near to the crossing by Sainsbury's, negating the temptation to hop the London Rd traffic at all. And making it accessible to a larger number of Forst Hillers in general.

And what happened to the Taymount Rise box junction they were talking about last year?

(Not that I would want to further encourage the annoying number of drivers who use Taymount Rise to change direction on the South Circular via 3-point turns at the bottom, or in side roads/residential driveways - their satnavs clearly not showing that there's a roundabout at the top that they could use to turn around without cutting up pedestrians Cursing)

Of course, you could just use the post box located within Sainsbury's .... Rofl
