Who is it organised by and why?

Val Kelly is a singer & songwriter who for 17years had lived with the neurological and life altering immune disorder - M.E (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis also referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Post Viral Syndrome). She?s happy to say that she?s entering her second year of recovery?yippiddy yoo?and in cahoots with the national charity for M.E - Action For M.E - and as part of a personal challenge (to test her recovery theory), along with local Art Administrator & business woman Lesley Mach, she has agreed to participate in the equivalent of a 70km fundraising walk at altitude along the Inca trail to Macchu Picchu in Peru (Oct 24 ? Nov 2). Their aim - to raise ?2700 (each) in aid of the 250,000 + people affected in the UK.

As with many charity fundraising challenges eg the marathon there is a sum to raise before the event officially takes place ? in this case it is ?2200 by the 31st July. This will go towards funding research towards finding the cause(s) and cure for the illness (hopefully reducing the number of years others will have to spend re-adjusting their lives and recovering from ?fighting the lurgy?).

Yep you?ve guessed it we?re about to ask for your support? Both Val & Les would be chuffed if you thought you could contribute to one or the other of the following options or even both to help the cause...

1. You could go to new fundraising page on http://www.justgiving.com/valkelly and donate a few squid. Ideal for those who are further a field?or unable to attend no.2

2. You could attend the aforementioned fundraising event

What?s On?

Between 7pm to 10.00pm ? there will be live music featuring 5 live local acts (including Val?s band ? Ryez, Tom Trelawny, David Mach?s The Voyeurs, The Gill Lindsay band, Ian Appleby ?) great comedy/ compere (Andy Ashaye) plus a raffle/auction which will include donations from several local businesses including artists. From 10.00 -11.30pm we will have a DJ chill out/let your hair down zone.

To find out more about the illness and how it affected Val, and others like her, pls visit the aforementioned page http://www.justgiving.com/valkelly .
Also http://www.afme.org.uk/
and http://www.a4me.org.uk/ (specifically for children & young people affected with M.E)

No matter the amount, large or small, all will be appreciated. If you know of others who may like to show support, please feel free to pass this info on to them.

Whether you are able to donate, attend the fundraiser or contribute in any other way - hope to hear from you. Your contribution will make a difference!!

Musically Yours

Val & friends

ACTION FOR M.E ? REGISTERED CHARITY NUMBER: 1036419

M.E affects the lives of over 250,000 people in the UK. It is a chronic, disabling illness, with no cure. Anyone can be affected ? men, women and children ? from any ethnic background. Up to 25% of people with M.E are severely affected, either house or bed bound, and unable to look after themselves.
The exact cause of M.E is unknown but it is often triggered by a viral infection such as glandular fever.

Nice to see information about events like this posted on the forum. It's a shame there aren't more postings about local community and charity events...

Unfortunately at that point I have to cease writing as otherwise I'll be violating this forum's rules...
