Oh dear. That presumably means they intend to increase the maximum red time wait for local pedestrians in favour of the through traffic.
This is not a SE23 victory. At all.
Well, up to a point, Lord Copper. Elsewhere on this site is a link to a map showing air pollution readings along major roads. And the clear evidence in my view is that where there are traffic bottlenecks (Catford Bridge to Brownlee Road for example) air pollution readings are off the scale. So having vehicles queued up on the South Circ from SE23 Co-op all the way back to Calais isn't going to do pedestrians a lot of good, either, in my view.
I do agree there has to be a balance - of course I do: I'm also a local pedestrian! - and they obviously aren't going to set the green light to 6 minutes' duration or anything silly like that because then that would just stuff all the morning rush hour traffic into the London Road lights and we'll be no further ahead. But the past couple of weeks of 25 seconds red and 12 seconds green has just been ridiculous.
Frankly, I'm just impressed at getting a personal email from a named official with their own phone number - with a clear indication that action really is being taken!
