Our next meeting is taking place on Monday 4th November at St Saviour’s Church, Brockley Rise, SE23 1JN at 8pm
Mary Jane Baxter will be talking to us about her experiences as a milliner and passing on some of her millinery skills by teaching us how to make a Suffolk Puff hat.
“Mary Jane is a thoroughly modern milliner with a love of the past. After working for fifteen years as a journalist, the hat-bug got the better of her and she decided to study millinery professionally. Having trained with hat-maker-to-the-stars Stephen Jones for two years, she set up her own label. Her first collection was snapped up by Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge and since then she's sold her hats on-line and through one-off boutiques”.
If you are able, please do bring along a needle and thread, fabric scraps and a CD for the pattern to follow Mary Jane as she explains what to do. Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy watching a milliner at work!
Our book table will be up and running, so get ready to look for something new to read (for 50p) and if you would like to bring a book to drop off at the table, please do so.
As usual, teas and coffees will be available for 50p, and we will also have a delicious cake to try courtesy of our president Gill.
Look forward to seeing you all then.
