Honor Oak Park Parade needs a pub!

Is there any way we can make some more noise about this issue? -
I think this would be a game-changer for the onward positive evolution of HOP parade.

I sometimes ping an email to pub companies to badger them ... but I still don't see any evidence / or ever hear rumours of anything positive happening..

..please someone...anyone... give us some good news!?

I couldn't agree with you more. I don't have any positive news though other than I understand there has been interest.

Frankly, it seems there has always been interest, that isn't the hold up, it is the landlord and prospective tenant coming to an equitable arrangement that seems to the problem. Hopefully the extra footfall generated by the new supermarket, and anecdotally there certainly seems to be some, will help. So long as the price doesn't go up again because of this as I would consider this effect is priced in already!

Tincan, I've adopted the same occasional badgering technique! In fact I have heard back from a few local business owners who were interested in The Old Bank, but it seems they're all put off by the high rent demanded by the landlord, as Lacb has mentioned.

If a gastropub opened there, it would have a captive audience and I'm sure would be a roaring success. We simply don't have anything like it in HOP and I know plenty of people, me included, who would absolutely love it.

do we actually know who this landlord is? My wife is related to the agents who this person used to try and impose that dominos pizza on us, so I will try and find out.

This person needs to be contacted, and we need to start a petition, I think we need to start getting more proactive and use the same people power that stopped dominos to get that unit filled. Thumbup

It seems this landlord has our parade by the short and curlies Cursing

Hi just moved into the area. This forum has been very useful, thank you so much for all the advice. The high street is changing all the time, great to see. Totally agree re the OLD BANK, please let me know what I can do to help push this forward.

If residents would like to buy the premises, if it ever goes on sale that is, you can try and get it listed as an asset of community value. This gives local groups a chance to bid for the asset if it ever goes on sale. More details available here:

Quite funny, they actually have 2 photos up on the Willmott website, one of The Old Bank, the other of Sainsbury's, so I would say you're probably right daveherne

Those Ginger's left the place in a right state.

FYI The gingerliners did not leave the Old Bank in a state they took on a unit that was in a state in the first place. They had their team of designers in to put in a set, if you went along to one of their evenings, you would have seen it was very impressive. Whoever takes the site on will have to gut the place and renovate it completely anyway.

Admittedly it does not look a pretty sight now and we can only live in hope that someone will take it on. I think the landlord was really lucky to get any rent in for nearly a year with the gingerliners. What they are asking though is through the roof. They need to be realistic.
