Afternnon SE23

Since moving to the area we have enjoyed the many eateries and watering holes in the area, in particular the the sardinian restaurant in Brockley rise, Le Querce. The last couple of visits we have noticed the food hasn't been that great. I do hope this isn't the way forward for Le Querce. Am I on my own with this view?

Have eaten there twice in the last month and the food has been excellent on both occasions.

Was there anything in particular you didn't like? Did you mention it to the staff at the time?

Although others I know do rate it highly, I have never really liked it. I think the food is very average and for that it is pricey. I don't like the staff - rather rude and in your face - and the three times I have eaten there I have found it incredibly hot and uncomfortable. I don't really intend to go back.

We ate there only once, and found the food superb, reasonably priced and the staff lovely and accommodating.
I arrived late from work to join some friends for supper, the owners happily slotted me in, paced the service so all mains arrived together and were happy to make a variation to my order which on the menu had an ingredient I didn't like (I think it was a sauce)
The ONLY reason we have only been once is because its location means its a bit outside our normal patch.
but we certainly will return.

I have to say I've eaten there a couple of times and never understood why people raved about the place. Don't get me wrong, the food is fine, really, but nothing to sing from the rooftops about.

I have also been there recently and many times before. It is still great in our opinion And super-child friendly. Maybe yours was a just a bad experience, was it something particular?

We are regulars and yes it is expensive but the only time the quality dropped, in our opinion, was when they opened a second restaurant in Blackheath. Sadly for them it closed but for us the top chef returned. As for rudeness..... No chance, they are most welcoming and very very friendly.

We've not eaten there in the last couple of months but have always found the food good in the past. The main reason we have been in the past if that with a 2 year old it is such a child friendly restaurant, the staff are great with young children.

Was surprised to read the comment about the staff being rude above, have never witnessed anything like that myself, quite the contrary.

The food and the service are typically Italian. I think that there is a version of Italian food that is commonly served in the UK and if not like this then some people seem unhappy.

I can assure you that Le Querce is the real deal and, in my opinion, the best restaurant in the area.

To answer the OP, we ate there 2 days ago and the food was top notch. I would say this though: as per best advice in Italy (anywhere?), choose from the blackboard/specials menu. The staff are always happy to translate for you.

We have just been there tonight and it was, as we always find it, fantastic. We always take visiting friends & family there and they always love it.

The food is great and I always find the staff very friendly - although we have been going there for about six years and they always recognise us.

I have found that being used to the food at Le Querce, if I go to other Italian places they often seem very bog-standard.

For my tuppence worth as I love my food, I moved to SE23 last year and have been twice, and I think the food is fine, good even, but far far far too expensive for what it is and it always seems rather empty which doesn't really make for a good atmosphere. That said, I have always found the staff to be really friendly and accomodating.

The staff are rude. I cannot go into the specifics of why or how they were rude because the last time I wrote about them I was censored this site.

Pico, I'm sorry to hear that you have had an unpleasant experience with the staff. The only issue we have ever had is that sometimes some staff members are FOTB from Italy and don't have great English. There is always someone on hand with excellent English so have never had a problem with this and in fact find it part of the charm.

For the record, we have been going there ever since they opened seven years ago and have found the staff very welcoming, family friendly and attentive. They can be slow perhaps compared to London standards but this is again just like in Italy. You go with the flow and enjoy the experience. Try and change Italy, or Italians, and they bite back. Just my 2p, hope it helps.

I have been many times, however, recently have found the food to be rather bland. Has the chef changed? Certainly can't complain about the staff who are always very helpful.

Sometimes impatient service, the rear section echos every table's conversation so is very noisy, and the front section has kids' toys littering the place like a creche. All in all not a lot to rave about.

Toys at front are an absolute godsend if you have kids as also very child friendly to boot. Doc makes a good point re reflective walls at rear - they could do with wall hangings or, better still, an interior design makeover.

Still not complaining as go there for the food and have never had a problem with the service.

Best restaurant in SE23 easily in my opinion, although if you dislike fish many of the superlative specials will be lost on you

Every meal we've had at Le Querce (and we've had A LOT of them) has been absolutely delicious.

Yes the decor is a bit tired. But for me it really doesn't matter when the food and the service is so great.

I think we're extremely lucky to have such a good, friendly restaurant so close to home.

I really can't fault Le Querce and obviously I'm not alone as it is hard to get a table at the weekend these days without booking.

I do tend to eat the specials rather than anything on the menu, for me its all about the specials (but you do need to like fish as per Bcm) and I love their pizzas - super thin base - but not everyone likes this type of base.

I find that everyone is super friendly (although I do visit several times a month so would be considered a regular!!) and I feel so lucky to have a restaurant of this quality just moments down the road.
If I were to live further afield I would travel to Le Querce - it really is that good.

Easily our favourite restaurant in the area. Incredibly friendly staff, a welcoming place for children, great (authentic) food (we virtually always go for the specials) and a relaxed atmosphere where you can spend hours over as few or as many courses as you fancy!

Ironically, friends of ours who live near to the doomed restaurant they opened in Blackheath will happily make the journey across south London to dine here.

If you didn't like the food then I can only recommend trying again...or don't of course!
