Does anyone know what is happening regarding the closed east most section of Sydenham Park SE26?

This is the end of Sydenham Park, beyond I think its called Longfield Crescent, where the road gently descends to a dead end for vehicles by the footbridge across the railway to Dacres Road. Its the part of the road in front of the Electricity Substation that caught fire in June, and has been closed off since then. And in part reference to the current German Footbridge thread (cycles on the footbridge), its part of a cycle route.

Of course only in this country is the notice ?authorising? closure from LBL still proudly displayed on the miles of ?temporary? fencing: it is dated 11th June 2008, valid for . .wait for it . . . . . . 3 weeks.

No-one, I presume, disputes the need for the emergency services to have done their work, but five months have now elapsed since the closure of this road, and in that time apart from the first 10 days, the fenced off area has only ever been used for parking of a few contractor?s vehicles and the odd pallet of bricks. Presumably those contractors were meant to be repairing the substation. It would appear now though that new building work is taking place there, not reparition of the fire damage, and the road has just become a private enclosed car park.

As if that wasn?t enough, two weeks ago the commandeers of the road appear now to have sub-let a third of the closed road space, for parking for Contractors of Network Rail working on the disused signal box of the railway (?)

Is there any chance of claiming this quiet cul-de-sac back for the people?

Or is this a prelude to eventual gate-ing of the road to avoid the occasional fly-tipping that used to take place.

Yes the footbridge is still there - see thread "German Bridge" thread in SE23 topics.
[ Bridge is not in great condition, but every few years, when pushed, LBL do a bit of maintenance. So called (by some people) because of the German Church (Dietrich Bonnhoeffer Lutheren) nearby. ]
