We've always defaulted to Babur but the last one we got was a bit so-so surprisingly.

I know there are a number of other places around, but it's really hard to tell from a menu so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

I've found the general standard to be very low in the area but do enjoy the food from Dewaniam. Note though that for some reason the one on Wastdale Road is better than the one on Stanstead Road, at least in my opinion.

We've tried quite a few and always revert back to Cinnamon, which we think is the best for taste/value for money...

We have a curry a week from Elachi and have done for 12 years. We have had one dud dish and that was sorted out and all our money for the order refunded.

Cinnamon has always been great. Tandoori mixed grill is fantastic.

I have tried a few of the above but since ditching Babur I always use Barakah in Sydenham and they are amazing.

Dewaniam for sure. Weirdly digime is right about the takeaway branch seeming better, they share the same kitchen though don't they?

On the rare occasion we've had a delivery they've always been really quick.

Babur still easily the best. But you need to use the take away menu from the main restaurant (which is only the food available in the restaurant). The take away branch down the road is not nearly as good and sometimes not good at all, but it does have a wider more typical menu.

Rob is correct (I've not tried the others mentioned in the thread) but the 'A la carte at home' from Babur is definitely better than the take away down the road which is average and of varying quality.

Millennium Tandoori in Sydenham has been voted Britains best take away out of 11,000 via Hungry House with Gurka's Flavour in Forest Hill coming third.

The article is on page 39 in Living South Resident Magazine. this month's edition which you can read online.

We've been bereft since the demise of the Honor Oak Tandoori (soon to be Sainsburys!).

Also use the a la carte Babur but alternate with yak and yeti in crystal palace, def recommend them. They deliver to us in SE23 not sure if they cover the entire postcode.

We've tried most of them in FH and East Dulwich over the years. Babur was our favourite for ages but used to take 1.30hr to come and when it did it was tepid/cold. I think Dartmouth Tandoori is the best at the moment. Food is superb. They're really nice in there too.

I must confess I'm not keen on Dartmouth Tandoori, tried it three times, and found it very oily and disappointing

I've found Elachi to be pretty good for takeaway. Nice people too, and they always deliver within the time that they say they will, in my experience.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think my husband went to the take-out Babur last time which might explain it. But there are some great ideas here to try out first I reckon ...

I've always had good food from Royal Tandoori in Crofton Park. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet actually.
