The Thames Water engineer came this morning and checked the water supply pipes of our house and 6 houses up and down our property on the same side of the road. He even rechecked some of the supply pipes where he could hear water running but it was water being used by consumers. He did not hear any leak from any of the supply pipes that he checked and rechecked.
However he confirmed that further up the road there is a leak on the main pipe at the level on 195/232 Devonshire road (195 being opposite to 232) and he said that the water is leaking on the two sides of the road (with more leak on the odd number side of the road), there is also visible water coming out from the cracks in the middle of the road. We saw this too by ourselves and what he said made sense.
On a separate note, I asked him if he was aware of any other leak on Devonshire Road and he replied no.
Next steps:
- The engineer assessement will be logged
- I will call Thames Water tomorrow to tell them that is is not a valve of supply pipe to repair at the level of 195 but the main pipe supplying the road at the level of 195/232. He advised me to chase Thames Water so that their contractors do the repair asap.
I hope this is helpful to the residents of Devonshire road.
Thanks for the update bonobo. It is credible to me that this could be part of the cause for our issues. It will probably be keeping the storm drain busy and, when we get a downpour, make drainage less efficient than it should be.

I took the picture at around 7pm today, which has been a very hot day. The picture only shows the portion where the water is coming out on the surface of the street and this is worse than when I looked at it on Monday 29/7. The water is also running underground and it goes up to the two sides of the street and runs down the road.
This is clearly coming from a main pipe in the middle of the road.
I called Thames Water ealier today to chase again. They said someone is supposed to come tomorrow to assess what they need to do. If they need to block the road to do the repair, they will need the council permission first before starting the work. I stressed again the urgency.

Update on the clean water leak on Devonshire Road:
I called Thames Water to follow-up.
Thames Water has a permit (given by the council) and this permit is open until 21st September to repair the main pipe on the road.
So anytime from now and by 21st September, the repair will occur. They will ask cars to be removed from the area they will work on, they will dig in, repair, fill-in back and reinstate everything as normal by the 21st September. They might block the road if necessary for the repair.
Update on the clean water leak on Devonshire Road (starting at level 232/195):
It looks like it has been repaired within the deadline by Thames Water as we can't see any more water running down.
However I could see earlier today that there is another leak (much stronger), looks like it is coming from Boveney Road (the North side where the council estate is) and the water is running down the street to 225 Devonshire road. If tomorrow the water is still running, I will have a look where it starts on Boveney Road and give a call to Thames Water.
They were pretty quick, I think I reported it Saturday morning, they had a man out with his listening device on Saturday night, then they repaired it over night last night.
There is/was a clean water leak on Wood Vale about 50ft from the junction with London Road. There are three reports showing on the Thames Water website but not sure if anything has been done yet since I cycled in from the other end tonight.
For Devonshire road - yes this is correct.
I thought the repair occured last week because i could not see any water running anymore, hence my earlier post on this forum. But Thames Water is currently doing the repair.
My son spotted a massive water leak this morning on the way to school coming from a house on the left hand side as you turn into Devonshire Road. It was quite full on, not sure if this is linked.
I suspect there's a new one about to appear in Melford Road in a rather large 'rut' caused by bus wheels next to to a speed bump. It was suspiciously damp this morning... despite all around being dry.
Walked past the Devonshire Road closure on Friday morning - two workmen digging away. Stopped to chat and asked when the road would be reopened. Teatime today, they said. Unfortunately, on our way back (at around teatime), the road was still closed and the water flowing at twice the speed it had been in the morning, with no end in sight. Looks like this one's going to run and run....
There is another clean water leak on Devonshire road!
I spotted it last week on the way home and I called Thames Water on Friday last week to report it. The leak is at the level of 221 Devonshire Road.
An engineer came today for an initial investigation and this is the main pipe that is leaking. Thames Water will start the repair work tomorrow because they still have a permit valid for another month from the council.
Because this is a similar leak as the one we had a few weeks ago, the road will be closed for a while again.
FWIW there's one on Brockley View, on the steep part just before/after the road joins Codrington Hill. Been there for months and it definitely not "clean".
EDIT: I've got off my virtual bum and logged it on the Thames Water website, how's that for community spirit!

I called Thames Water again tonight, they said that the repair work will start on 29th October at 11am. I hope they will stick to this date and not change the timing again.
