If you look at the PDF at the link below you will be able to see more details of what is proposed.

Nutfield - You are correct in saying that the bend will be "smoothed out" as part of the works. But speeding here is surely not a major concern - the road will still form a bend and two sets of speed cushions plus a raised carriageway will be installed at this point.

Is the pavement going to be widened?
It is quite narrow and I note that a new tree is going to be planted.
Is this wise? We all know that it only takes one leaf on the line to bring the rail network to a halt.

Thanks for the info nasaroc. But I am not so sure about your analysis. Imagine boy racer...comes off the speed humps by the underpass, then a gentle bend and no speed restrictions right down the gentle slope all the way to the Mayow Road roundabout. Perry Vale already suffers from speeding (not up by the station more on the long straight bit), and I cannot see these changes improving the situation.

(to be accurate, there is also a speed 'ramp' outside the primary school - but it doesn't seem to slow anybody down!)

Yes thanks nasaroc.

Look what is missing - the pedestrian crossing island.
Of all the changes to perry vale in recent years, some good, some oversights and some comical, this fairly new crossing fell into the good camp.
Removing it can not be justified - it is total incompetence at best, homicidal at worst.

How are pedestrians meant to safely get from the underpass to the South bus stop or pub or even to their new flat?

And the pavement on the West side next to the car park entrance is having a good 2 foot removed to allow cars to pull out wide before cutting in. (travelling North).
So all margin for error is removed between the banking cars and you/your loved ones/your pooping dog at this point.

No pavement is widened unless you count the 'lips' extending from Hindsley's Place.

Who on earth approved these plans? They are pedestrian hostile.

Removal of pedestrian island: I objected to this during the planning application process, but to no avail.

Surely a pedestrian island near the station crossing is essential. Elderly people especially prefer to cross in two goes.

despite 1 railway station (one of the busiest in London), 1 primary school, 1 pub, xx shops and xxxx homes, Pery Vale does not have a single pedestrian crossing. (There is that raised ramp thing near the school, but is it a crossing? It has no special markings, and cars never seem to stop).

When a sign says "ROAD CLOSE" it means, unless you live down there, DONT drive down it.

Walking past the subway on the Forest Hill Central side this evening, I was alarmed to see the sheer number of cars ignoring the closed signs outside the cab office, and FORCE their way through on the wrong side of the road. Forcing cars coming the other way to mount the pavement.... So I could not pass!

Its hardly like the diversion takes them way out of their way.
I realise its a new diversion, and always confusion. But the same people who managed to bully their way through tonight will no doubt be trying again tomorrow.

Going for a walk past there in a while, if its still going on I shall inform the local nick.

If nothing else they could sit the other side of the closed off section by Church Vale, and pull people over as they emerge and give everyone FPN's They deserve them!

Snazy, as much as I admire your positivity the police will do diddly squat. We have complained endlessly about people using Waldenshaw Rd as a drag strip when they use it as a rat run and the same with people driving the wrong way down Manor Mount. To date nothing so have taken it upon myself to rant atr people in person when I catch them.

Look for my obit in the local rag.

Should I remove my tongue from my cheek for my next reply lol.

Sorry I was just being lighthearted about it. In the light that a lot of people seem to see the police fining people for things like this as just money generating, and not caring. If you catch my drift.

Yeah I can remember people doing that round those roads from many years ago when I worked at Sainsburys.

Failing that I will just drive down it the right way if its still open, in my old battered car, and remain head to head, thus closing the road haha

Haha sorry, bit early for daft humour isn't it.
Clear the roads, clear the roads.. Malamute on a mission coming through. Let the walk commence, and see how many people are pushing through today.

Bet they are the same people that drive right up to the cones on motorways when it said 2 miles back, "LANE CLOSE" Thus causing tailbacks.

Funnily enough, I noticed a couple of gentlemen of the constabulary standing at the corner of Waldenshaw Road/Manor Mount on the Sunday before last (discreetly behind a parked van). As anyone came down Manor Mount the wrong way they were being pulled over and spoken to. Since I was being a good law-abiding citizen I wasn't close enough to see whether fixed penalties were being issued, but I imagine they were (plus the cars could be checked for insurance etc etc etc).

Personally I think this is a good approach (and surely it's better than a camera).
