I read a comment, on another forum, suggesting that houses in the area require underpinning. Is this correct? The same forum had a comment about particularly thin walls between houses on a street in the area and I wondered it anyone has similar comments, or indeed general comments, specifically regarding Holmesley road.

No idea on this road but whole area is liable to subsidence. Hence very high insurance premiums

Hi

If you click on the below link it'll take you to the Lewisham Council's Building Control site, you just enter the name of the road, and it'll bring up every case.

As it is a legal requirement for any underpinning contractor to submit an application to the Council, this should show you how many instances of underpinning there is on that particular road.

In my experience (living in Forest Hill, on Clay), insurance premiums aren't that high, unless you actually buy a property which has already had a subsidence claim, and even then there are specialist brokers that can offer pretty competitive prices.

thank you, I did a search on the road and it didn't return any results so I'm taking that as a good sign
