Has anyone had a successful offer? We're hoping to get our letter tomorrow and I'm getting very nervous reading about other people missing out on their preferred options.

Hi Hillstop - did you apply online? You can find out now from the e-admission site.

We got Kilmorie which I'm really relieved about - it was 4th choice but I knew the top 3 were pretty unrealistic, and it does seem like a lovely school.

Fingers crossed for you

Kilmorie was often first choice for a lot of people!

We got Kilmorie which was our second choice. We only applied for Dalmain and Kilmorie. They are both great schools but still very surprised that we didn't get Dalmain. We are equal distance to both. Next door neighbour goes to Dalmain so this is a bit strange. Kilmorie it is and we are lucky to have so many great Primary Schools in the area! Smile

Yes I am really pleased with Kilmorie (didn't want to convey that I'm not!), I'm certainly not complaining! Really looking forward to my daughter starting Smile

Post arrived! We got our first choice school, which was the Horniman.

Very, very relieved.

There is a lot of movement on the waiting lists for all local schools. Dalmain is sibling-tastic this year which may account for a bit of a shrinkage in catchment.

Does anybody know of anyone going to Rathfern. We have been offered that (third choice after Stillness and Dalmain), and will likely accept it. I know it's a good school with a good Head Teacher but I don't know anyone going there!!

We didn't get any of our 6. Anyone else in a similar position?

That's awful Bernard. What school did you get allocated? I've seen a couple of posts on the ED Forum where people didn't get any of their six.

Hopefully the waiting lists will work out for you and quickly.

A fried of mine also did not get any of their 6 Bernard. Have you called to find out about distances? It might help show you are not too far out so hopefully waiting list movement should mean you get a place.

Which school were you allocated?

That is incredible Bernard! I keep my fingers crossed for you and hope the waiting list will work in your favour. We only put 2 choices on the application but i wonder what the outcome could have been if we had a bigger list ? Good luck. Did you end up with a school further out?

JackJess - assuming you put your current two schools as first and second choice the result would have been the same. The only difference would have been if you didn't get either of your choices, in which case you would have been allocated the nearest school that still had places after allocations had been made.

It is awful to not get any of 6 choices, but it does seem to happen every year and it does seem to resolve itself by September with most people getting a place they are happy with. Fingers crossed for those having to do the waiting game

What kind of catchment distances were there this year compared to others? Even if there's loads of siblings you should surely get into a school that's a couple of hundred metres away. Or am I being wildly naive?

It makes complete sense LittlePickleHead,I am being silly here Blush Well I can only say that I am glad we were allocated a school we know and from our preferred options. Hope things get sorted for everyone on waiting list

Mr Wandle - as far as I know there were no bulge classes at all in forest hill this year (I could be wrong but I think there were two Sydenham schools that bulged). This means that there are less overall places in the area than the last year, combined with some schools being a couple of years on from a bulge means that some schools catchment has shrunk considerably - I think horniman only had 10 non sibling places and a catchment of 250m.

It's really tough as if you just miss out of one of the schools you would normally be close enough to, then you are generally too far away from any of the others.

I think there should be a letter going out in the next few days that will give your distance, and the last distance offered, for all schools you didn't get allocated.

We got Kilmorie. It was our sixth choice, not because we don't think much of the school, we just never visited, and know very little about the school. Our first choice was Dalmain. We visited them twice and were incredibly impressed with the headteacher, and the pupils who gave us the tour. We just loved the headteachers whole approach and ideology about learning. It really matches our own.

Of all the schools we visited Dalmain seemed like the perfect fit for our son, so we're a little disappointed, but grateful we at least got one of our choices. I'm a little concerned about Kilmorie because it's quite far from us and also seems to be a very large school. We are planning to visit now to get a better sense of it. Does anyone have children at Kilmorie? If so, would love to hear your thoughts.

Bernard, this happened to me last year and we were offered a place at Haseltine in Lower Sydenham instead.

We appealed unsuccessfully but stayed on the waiting list for all schools and were eventually offered places at Klimorie and Gordonbrock in June.

There is a lot of movement with waiting lists as people decide whether to accept a place so I would advise you to stay on the waiting lists, contact the Council to see how for down the list of each of the places you are and keep getting updates.

It was a difficult time but most people end up getting a place at one of their six choices in the end. I would still advise you to accept the place you are offered though just so that your child has somewhere to go in September.

PM me if you need any further information.

Hi there

A friend of mine is a teacher at Kelvin Grove. Another good friend's children go there. She is very happy with it. Happy to put you in touch with her and the teacher if you are interested.
