I'm thinking of moving in the area. I like the fact it's hilly, green and generally quiet, but I have concerns about the traffic noise on Honor Oak Road, especially in the morning because of the schools. How early the road starts to get busy? Is it less busy through out the day and during the weekend? I've been there in the evening (7pm) and I counted maybe 20 cars per minute. Does that sound right to you?

Depends where you buy/rent but the back streets are rather quiet. I love living in HOP. We bought our house near Blythe Hill 3 years ago. Previously, we used to rent in Dunoon Road and I used to walk down Honor Oak Road and the noise never bothered me but then before that we used to live at the corner of East Dulwich Road opposite Peckham Rye and after that any place would have been quiet.

I live on Honor Oak Road and while it is quite a busy road it doesn't ever bother me as most of the houses and flats are quite set back from the road and in the evening it gets quieter.

I like the road as it has a mismatch of houses and if you live in the top half of the road there are great views over south east london.

Thanks Ghis. The house is on Honor Oak Road, and although there is double glazing, I don't know whether I can cope with the traffic noise. I think it's ok in the evening, but I don't know how the traffic is like during the morning hours and at weekends.

You get used to traffic noise. My grandmother had a house a few feet away from the A2 in Dover. We soon got used to the noise even of the heavy lorries from the ferries.

You will have a very famous neighbour if you move into that road.

I suppose you're right about getting used to the noise, although I hope the traffic isn't as heavy as the A2 in Dover!

We live off Dunoon Road - don't hear any traffic from Honor Oak Road, but can clearly hear South Circ of an evening (sirens, scooters etc.)

Much worse than the traffic is the noise of Fairlawn kids at play, which really seems to travel. Mercifully, it's only during daytime/termtime and of limited duration.

from my experience HOP is fine for noise. Wouldn't move near a bus stop though.

Have a bus stop right outside my flat on Honor Oak Park which is brilliant for safety and cuts out on cab fares. As there are are only single deckers noise is not bad Bedroom and living room to front of flat and promise noise not a problem, it becomes a comforting lull.
