[Moved from Forest Hill on the tube map -admin]

Anyone - has there been any confirmation that oyster travelcards will work down to Forest Hill?

Oyster travelcards already work, it's Oyster pay-as-you-go that doesn't. I don't know if a date for pay-as-you-go has been announced yet.

I am sure I have read and heard the once the ELL is in we will be able to use pre pay Oyster cards - maybe even before....am sure Micheal would know more about this as he has his finger on the pulse for all local transport stuff...

That's definitely true, Tersie. But work is being done on installing ticket barriers at the moment at FH Station, and you'll be able to swipe your oyster card there once they're installed. Don't know whether that means you'll be able to top up your card at FH Station, though, considering it's not a TfL station. Having said that, I assume you can top up at the newsagent's in FH. Anyone know any more?

The barriers that are planned to be installed in June (on one side of the station only) will not accept pre-pay Oyster card.

Good to hear that work is being done but it still does not help some who do not have a weekly travelcard... Unsuremind you does it mean you can have a days travelcard put on there and it can be used at Forest Hill? roll on when we can use pre pay!

I top up my Oyster card at a local newsagent. He always seems very keen for me to do this.

I just want to be able to pay for my zone extension on my Oyster rather than having to queue up for a ticket that's 60% or so dearer. Since I go to work from Denmark Hill, I can get away with having a zone 1-2 card.

Update on Oyster PAYG services from Mayor Boris's question time:

Quote:
Oyster on National Rail services
Question No: 1432 / 2009
Jenny Jones

What are you doing to ensure that Oyster Pay As You Go rollout on national rail services in London is not delayed to 2010?

Answer from the Mayor:

Both I and Lord Adonis have made clear our backing for this project.

Installation of the necessary equipment at all Train Operator stations across London continues to go well and is planned to be complete by the end of the summer.

New software capable of dealing with the extended number of stations, journeys etc will be rolled out for final testing early in September.

I remain hopeful that PAYG acceptance across London will be achieved towards the end of this year or at the latest at the start of January.

TfL and the Department of Transport are both making it clear to the Companies that they expect them to agree to the system going live on this timescale.

It is anticipated that the Department will be issuing a fares direction shortly to this effect.

Thanks to Jenny Jones for asking the question on my behalf.

Oyster PAYG will go active across National Rail on 2 January 2010. I cannot figure out the fares for ELL / Southern services; maybe someone else willl enlighten us.

Looking at the tables given, a single peak journey on national rail only. i.e. FH to LB using Southern will be ?2.60 (?2 off peak)

A journey to Bank via Southern to LB, then Northern Line will be ?3.70 peak (?3.10 off)

A journey to LB via ELL/Jubilee changing at Canada Water which are both run by TfL will be ?2.70 (10p more expensive than Southern) at peak and ?2.40 off peak.

Sadly it means that National Rail prices will be different from Tfl and ironically cheaper by Southern on PAYG.

Has anybody figured out if the Oyster changes in January will mean that annual non-travelcard tickets e.g. HOP to London Bridge) can be loaded on Oyster cards? Or will those still be paper tickets?

I'd like to know this too. I usually get a monthly paper ticket and having to use PAYG every day will be significantly more expensive for me....

I have asked the staff at the station but they don't seem to know...

I've been using an Oyster card, loaded with my monthly 1-3 travel pass, from Forest Hill for more than a year. The main inconvienece has been not being able to actually buy it or validate it at Forest Hill.

(If you buy it online, you have to validate it at a tube gate, or you can buy it at a tube station of some stores.).

Will that change now, will you be able to buy cards with monthly travel cards at Forest Hill?

I dont see why it will change the status quo with regards being able to buy the different types of tickets, only the PAYG for Oyster will be added. I get my Oyster travelcard from the newsagent on the Dartmouth Road, but get single tickets (if I dont have a valid travelcard) from the station when I need them. After Jan I'll not have to wait to buy singles if I have credit on my Oyster, which Im very happy about.

I note the new ticket machines (that caused the huge queues at the station on Monday last week when they werent working) have Oyster readers on them - so you should be able to top up using those.

sorry - to clarify, question is whether you will be able to load station to station SEASON tickets (not travelcards and not PAYG) on Oyster.
