Ate at Sodo Saturday lunchtime. Think we got the last non-booked table, it was packed (at lunchtime virtually all families with young children). 4 pizzas on the limited menu so far, more will come once they re ready to open fully.

Staff were extremely welcoming and a real asset. Food arrived quickly (we were one of the first in) and was good. Limited drinks on offer, but again that will change once fully ready.

All the tables appear to be able to sit 6-8, not sure what happens if just 2 of you want to eat, I guess for now you share a table. Maybe that will change post true opening, maybe it will remain.

All in all a really nice atmosphere inside, decent food and great staff. Looks like it will be a (very popular asset) to HOP and SE23. We are very lucky now have SODO, Querce and Babur in very short walking distance - for family lunchtimes all are great, especially the first 2, and Babur's buffet on Sunday where kids under 8 I think eat free.

Enquiring minds (well, one enquiring mind, mine) needs to know - is this just a massive refurb, or has the kebab shop at the station in FH gone for good?

Anyone any info?

No! Why do you hope it's gone? What would you have take its place?

Would be a sad loss if it were to go.....what are late night train stations without a kebab shop.

It has been through several incarnations down the years so I hope it's just a refurb.

My boyfriend spoke to the staff a few weeks back. It's just a refurb and will be opening again in a couple of weeks.

*relief* Thumbup Sometimes all I require in life is a bit of indeterminate meat product with a side helping of guilt-assuaging salad!

Frankly, almost anything or nothing.

For me it is a shame one of the first things greeting people (and their senses) arriving in FH by train is a rather sad looking old kebab shop - still at least it is conveniently next to that lovely toilet....

Having said that if it is to stay then of course I welcome it being given a makeover (hopefully externally too).

Yes thats the ticket, late train back, usefully placed toilet (although admittedly it was better when there was a free one in the station), quick Kebab (double chilli of course) and off home. Ah, such things are good evenings made of hrmmm?

gbrownings - I understand your point. William Morris had a good idea - I'm happy for anything in the town as long as it's useful or beautiful. Occasionally the kebab shop is one of those for me; hopefully after the refurb it may be both! Wink

As opposed to that marvellous eyesore opposite the station, which is currently neither; if it is to turn into an estate agency let's hope they refit it nicely so that it fulfills one of the criteria.

erekose - I'll leave the double chilli to you, but indeed, there are some occasions when it's just the ticket!

Even East Dulwich has a kebab shop which has survived the gentrification, so I don't see why we can't have the nice coffee shops and a kebab shop which is handy for a one-off kebab if travelling home late.

They could make it a nice kebab shop with an outside area that you can smoke a shisha at!

Had my "one-off" kebab in about 1970 and it moved me (if you know what I mean!).....never again Blush

The main eye-sore is the station.

Yes Perryman it was a sad choice they made in the 60's to demolish the original station - the current one is very low grade indeed.
