You've only got 20 days left to vote, and to get your friends to vote, for Mayow Park. There are some other well organised campaigns in Bromley and other parts of South East London, so we need all the support we can get for Mayow Park.

Vote now at: http://www.london.gov.uk/parksvote/regio.../mayow.jsp

Last night I met a couple of regulars on the forum who 'had meant to vote but hadn't got round to it yet...'

You are running out of time!

Just click on the link http://www.london.gov.uk/parksvote/regio.../mayow.jsp , and vote now!

Many thanks Smile

Many thanks for keeping this issue "live" Michael.

A large leaflet drop of the area around the park is currently taking place - Perry Hill and Perry Rise, for example, have been leafleted in the last 24 hours - and all the streets south of those roads should also have been covered.

Let's keep up the pressure now and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!

Yes, thanks Michael for bumping this up from time to time.....

I have a few postal voting cards left if anyone knows somebody who doesn't have access to the internet or mobile, please PM me with their full name and full postcode (doesn't have to be a Lewisham resident) and I can post it for them. I would need to post before the weekend, as it's a Freepost address and we only have 9 days.

Many thanks
Emma Tarling, FOMP

.... current comments by LBL indicate we are being more pro-active in "getting the vote out" than around Deptford Park.
We have had 6,000 leaflets printed so far!

vote via the website http://www.london.gov.uk/parksvote/vote , via texting your postcode to 62967, or by phoning 0207983 4100.
Many thanks!

FOMP have just launched a new Facebook Group oddly enough, called "Friends of Mayow Park".

Join up and receive updates on news and events!

Whether or not we win the Mayor's jackpot (due to be revealed in early March), there will be lots happening soon.

Thanks for your support.

Unfortunately, we came third after Parish Wood Park & Avery Hill Park (in Geenwich & Bexley).

We only needed an extra 150 more votes to come second and I think this a really good result - thanks for all your support!

We beat Camberwell which had London Tonight publicity and Penge Parks, the only one in Bromley which also had lots of exposure.

Mummycat
Good luck with the bird watch.
Whilst appreciating Mayow Park I agree with another poster than dog owners seem to have taken the place over. Certainly was the case last Sat afternoon about 2pm. Most not on leads.
What are the bye laws regaring leads and muzzles for doggies in the park.? Maybe you could look into improving them if they are deemed not human friendly.

Hi Brian,

I absolutely agree with you. Talking to park users during the "Big Vote", there were many who raised concerns over violent and threatening canine behaviour. I do believe that a blanket Dog Order enforcement within LBL will be implemented soon....

I don't know whether there are any Councillors reading this who can advise more details.

You mean ban dogs totally from the park. Would be great.
I would imagine not easy to enforce.

No, sorry to mislead you Brian but a Dog Control Order is to insist that they are on a lead, ie. the owner is in full control of them!

I'll report back when I have discovered any further updates from Lewisham.

Kind Regards
Emma.

Regarding the 'dog on a lead' order, i personally hope they do not impose it. I am a dog owner myself and whilst my dog can be annoying in that she likes to meet new people, she is not at all vicious or threatening. Most of all, she really needs that leg stretch that Mayow Park gives her in a safe environment (ie self-contained, little chance of her running into the road). Tell me where else I could exercise her in this way? Sydenham Woods is far too far and I don't take her to the Horniman because I know there are lots of families there and I can't always trust her to stay in the dog field.

However, I can totally sympathise with the people who have experienced the minority of careless dog owners. We were both attacked by a dog in Forest Hill, which I later found out had attacked someone else. In addition there are several quite aggressive dogs in Mayow Park that always seem to want a fight with other dogs and the owners are very lax about calling their dog off.

I do wish there was a way round it so that not all dogs and their owners are penalised. There are plenty of responsible owners (like me) and lovely dogs (like Tess) who don't deserve to be lumped into one box with the others. There are other places where dogs are banned - dogs need places to play too!

Isn't the solution to use a long lead that gives your dog freedom to roam when appropriate but means the dogwalker is always "in control" of their animal & if circumstances change suddenly can reel in the lead to have your dog in much closer proximity?
