Albion Millennium Green is the site of a former tennis club next to the railway as it approaches Forest Hill from Sydenham, and since being bought for posterity in 2000 to provide a natural oasis, its local friends have helped look after it - for more, see web site here.

But tomorrow, as part of the Capital Growth Scheme Albion Millennium Green is taking part in the national Big Dig Day.

The Green’s participation in this event will be from 10am – 6pm on Saturday 16th March. We can take the opportunity to get some important work done so please come along. It will be helpful if you could let Bruno or myself know if you can.

We’ll be doing some planting and making some more progress towards clearing some brambles and rubbish. Clearing work has begun to expose old hedges and shrubs which can be nursed back to good health so it’s an exciting prospect to watch it all emerge, and to be part of it!

We already have collected some recycled materials, such as gate posts and some timber but we need other materials too such as the gate itself and pathway materials. Any good quality recycled and second hand materials would be welcome. We will be attempting to make the rear entrance wheelchair friendly, so any advice on that front would also help.

Hope to see you some time during the Day - which can easily be combined with other community events, such as the Open Day at Dacres Wood Nature Reserve just over the other side of the railway line via the iron bridge.
