I had a skip once and a van full of police came to investigate it!

Blimey. Sounds like a good job I moved to the other side of the tracks. I used to live above what is now Doopo Doopo and the parking situation there was stupid. Get those cars off the road (and off the pavement) and into the marked bays further up.

Small businesses need to be sensible about it, too. So many times I've heard 'Well you can't park outside my shop within two metres of my door so my business is failing' as an excuse to mask a substandard business model or deny sad economic reality.

Just after 5 this evening I saw someone come out of Oriental Fusion and put wood in the skip as I was driving past. The skip looks full now so hopefully it should go soon.

Looks like something major could be happening to the whole shape of the T-junction opposite the station. Someone's gone mad with the yellow spray paint all over the junction, particularly up London Road direction.

Oh god, when they do that in my street some battered up old truck full of loose Tarmac comes along and randomly dumps loose piles of it on the spray paint. Maybe they'll create a huge Tarmac mound at the junction to really stuff it up.

Good work! I wonder how long it's been there? Something as simple as a badly positioned skip (or illegally parked car) can cause huge tailbacks.

A nice new empty skip has been delivered. Is the shop it's outside being refurbished or is it the flats above. If it's the shop perhaps the perspective tenants/owners should be made aware of the wonderful impact they are already making on Forest Hill!!

I lived on Dartmouth Road for 6 years and always thought it utter madness that the entire road up until the Sylvan post wasn't a red route.

Glasshalffull I am pretty sure it's the shop as I have saw builders from Oriental Fusion put rubbish in it on 2 occasions now, I was also nosey and asked what the shop was going to be, and was told that at some point it would be a kebab shop. I wasn't too familiar with the local bobby I spoke to about the skip, but I'll have a chat with the regulars when they pop in. I think if you are doing a shop fit you also have to think about the rest of the community. I have just finished one, and yes I took up a parking space outside my shop every day, which I felt awful about. I also used half the pavement outside my shop for a few days, but made sure everyone could walk past comfortably including push chairs and wheelchairs. I cleaned the pavement every evening before I went home as I think it was the right thing to do. Shop-fits don't need to put others out!

Those skip lorries doing the three-point turn and then reversing into the space beside WH Smith aren't doing the traffic at this junction any favours. Especially during rush hour.

I see the skip outside Oriental Fusion has gone at last. Hope this improves the flow of traffic in Dartmouth Road.

This afternoon, traffic was brought to a standstill for several minutes because one of the local traders (shan't name which!) had parked their van outside their shop. It was mostly on the pavement, but not quite, which meant that no traffic coming up from Forest Hill could get past when there was traffic coming the other way, which there was.

I wonder if the single yellow lines should really be doubles as any parking on the narrowest part of the road (before you get past Sugar Mountain) causes gridlock.

One Saturday a couple of weeks ago I was sat in traffic on Dartmouth road at 9am. After 10 minutes of queuing I was cross. The lights on Dartmouth road were on green for 8 seconds, barely enough time for three cars to get through. When we got to the south circular it was totally clear. I observed the same issues all week with queues all the way back to the pools whilst the south circular was clear.

Frustrated, I wrote to the council, who wrote to tfl and today I had this reply

Re.: Operation of the traffic signals at the intersection of London Road / Devonshire Road (A205), with Dartmouth Road, SE23

Thank you for your email of September 14 regarding the phasing of the above set of traffic signals. I am most sorry if you have experienced delays and resulting inconvenience at this location. Our signals engineers at Transport for London (TfL) have investigated your concerns, and I am pleased to convey their conclusions.

An engineer has investigated the site. They found a fault with the vehicle detection equipment on Dartmouth Road, and this matter has been reported to our maintenance contractor. This detection is designed to respond to levels of traffic on Dartmouth Road, and to allocate more time to the green signals at the location if the road is busy.

Please be advised that engineers will continue to monitor the signals over the coming months to ensure that the correct balance is in operation, and that the signals are working optimally.

I thought you'd all like to know!

Double chocolate biscuit ration, Deano! Brilliant!

Even if it takes until 2016 to sort it out, it's hugely satisfying to know that there is, indeed, a problem and it's not just "sheer volume of traffic" (as they say on radio traffic reports).

Cracking!Thumbsup

Well done Deano - there will be hundreds of motorists who benefit from your efforts in taking the time and trouble to write to the relevant authorities.

Thank you!

Fantastic news.... have reported it several times on the TFL website but it seems to no avail!. Now if we can just do something about widening the road at those lights or at least making it a red route or double yellow route so that buses can pass each other without the inevitable stand offs that seem to be a common occurance then traffic will truly run smoothly. Thumbsup

I have noticed recently how helpful some motorists have been on Dartmouth Road in terms of facilitating the freeflow of traffic by parking entirely on the pavement. Obviously this does rather get in the way of pedestrians, people with pushchairs, people carrying shopping, but ultimately they are not important ... are they?
