Someone tried to break into my neighbours house on Garthorne road on monday evening while he went out for a run, they broke the glass in the front door to try and open it. fortunately he had locked the chubb lock so
they couldn't get in. I don't know if this was opportunist someone watching him leave or not.
This is just to remind people to double lock your front doors when out, and possibly put your chain on while you're in.

Thanks honoroak, and good point.

I guess they're also making use of the fact that whilst normally, quite a few people are out and about in Garthorne Rd (lots of parents with prams and toddlers in tow, people tending to their front gardens, washing cars, walking dogs etc. and thereby posing a deterrent to those trying to break into properties), hardly anyone who didn't need to left their house in the last few days because of the cold.

This isn't a problem unique to garthorne road. I work in the area and know of breaks ins all over Honor Oak Park and Forest hill, I know of houses that have been burgled on the roads running off garthorne road. Unfortunately when it's winter and dark break ins and muggins go up. True I posted on here last winter I caught someone breaking into our shed, but again this was happening all around the area which the police confirmed to me and was in the local news.
I posted it as it happened to my neighbour and to remind people to lock your doors.

On the Police website it looks like crime is fairly evenly spread across all local streets in SE23: http://www.police.uk/. Don't think that any one street is worse than another.

If dogs fouling on pavements was registered as a crime then Garthorne Road would most definately be lit up in lights!

Don't get me started on the dogs mess, people walk on the road rather than the path, it's a good game with the kids, dodge the pooh...

There was a similar break in in Codrington Hill on Tuesday - the burglars are doing 'hit and run' burglaries - quickly smashing doors through, grabbing computers and valuables and runnning. All over in a matter of minutes. Police forensic team (who were there within minutes taking prints, etc) were advising everyone to make sure you double-lock your doors and change over from the older-type simple Yale locks
