Over the past week or so, we've noticed a strong gas smell as you approach Forest Hill Station from Waldram Park road/Perry Vale near the Co-Op. Has anyone else noticed?

We've informed the Gas Emergency Service and someone should be coming out to investigate the site.

This is most likely down to the recent leak at a French plant

@LondonFire
Can you smell gas? It is likely to be the gas cloud from France. No risk to the public, but if you feel it’s an emergency dial 999.

?@metpoliceuk
We are aware of reports of a strong noxious gas like smell in some South East London boroughs - no risks to public

All caused by this.

But, better to be safe than sorry, and call for it to be checked if in doubt Thumbup

Smelt it today at lunchtime. It didn't smell so much of gas as chemicals.

That chemical smell has been around on and off for at least a month. It really is nasty.

Has it anything to do with works to the underpass? It has a slight hint of paint-thinners about it.

I smelt it really strongly up on Mayow Road, so I doubt it's the underpass!

Seems as though the gas engineers are monitoring the site. They have cordoned off a section of the pavement up Perry Vale. I did smell it again this morning but let's see if they find anything. Perhaps it's just another morsel in the selection box of smells Forest Hill seems to have wafting around on the breeze.

I keep smelling a waft of gas from around Valentine Court when I walk the dogs in the evening. Also there was a strong smell from around EJ Carpets too. All seems to come from the telecoms covers in the pavements, which I believe is quite a common place for the gas to leak into when there are small fractures.
