I know there are a lot of cyclists out there. But did anyone know today is Walk to Work Day?

http://www.walkingworks.org.uk/index.php

Now I do walk to FH station, then walk from London Bridge to St Paul's in a feeble effort to combat the effects of my chosen lifesytle of sitting-on-the-sofa-watching-Eastenders-while-drinking-wine.

But I wonder how long it would take to walk to the City from FH? I would say two hours.

It took me about 2 1/4 hours from Victoria on 7/7. It's 6.22 miles

It is 5.1 miles from Bank to Forest Hill Sainsburys, that though is via back roads so I am sure there is a shorter route.

The obvious thing to do would've been to walk to work this morning and set the stopwatch going...

WOW 91 minutes for the fast walkers under us...now I live in Sydenham but do the same as Elizabeth...walk from London Bridge to Barbican Thumbup
But 6.1 miles....Ohmy maybe it is a good idea to do at the end of the month when the salary is more then gone and cant afford a train ticket anymore Blush

EVERY day is walk to work day! CP end of Lawrie Park Road to Lewisham (and usually back). 4.8 miles, just over an hour each way.

I've been doing it since New Year. It was a bit daunting at first but once you put aside an hour (or 2 if you walk back) it just becomes part of the day.
It gets easier and it's a hell of a lot less stressful than being stuck in a mobile zoo (the 122) full of screaming schoolkids and morons blaring out c**p on their mobile phones.
An added bonus - I managed to lose a stone in the first 6 weeks too.

Used to work 21 miles away so to be honest did not try to walk it. I am a great believer in walking where possible. Certainly would always walk up to 2 miles unless pouring down

Can I agree with Nork re buses at before and after school. They are a nightmare. I blame our former Mayor ( sorry am I jumping the gun ) . I often see kids go one or two stops thereby depriving paying clients of space on the bus.

Last year I tried the 10,000m steps a day

The most surprising thing was how your mindset changed to planning journeys that included as much walking as posssible. You also start to notice a lot more of the different buildings and discover the various parks and paths that are all over the area.

Easiest way to start is just allowing a bit extra time for your journey to work and getting off a stop or more early on the tube or bus.
