Does anyone know how I can recycle my tree. Have contacted Lewisham and they don't offer this service. We don't have a car so can't take anywhere and don't really want it in the front garden rotting away

Where exactly are you? There are various drop-off points around the area and Christmas trees are surprisingly light and easy to carry (or even drag!).

"From 28 December 2012 until 27 January 2013, Lewisham residents can take their unwanted real Christmas trees to any one of 12 designated recycling points. "

There's a collection point in Mayow Park. That might explain why I saw 3 cars with a Christmas tree on the roof being driven along Perry Vale last Saturday.

There are Christmas trees stuffed through the railings along the length of Mayow Park, presumably by people who arrived after dark and found the gate closed!

Some creative people in Brockley have a novel use for them:

Don't know who disposes of the trees afterward though.

Mayow Park, then. Twenty minutes walk tops.
