Fascinating new website / app.

One thing to remember is that it only covers the blitz currently, and not the rest of the war, so there were many more bombs dropped on the area.

It looks as though Forest Hill and Sydenham escaped relatively unscathed by the Blitz (242 days from 7 Oct 1940 to 6 Jun 1941):

Code:
Ward          Bombs    Mines
Brockley      118      2
Bellingham     88      1
Peckham Rye    78      0
College        55      0
Perry Vale     53      1
Rushey Green   49      0
Crofton Park   46      1
Catford South  40      0
Sydenham       34      0
Forest Hill    27      1
East Dulwich   19      0

Good point - and where South East London really caught it was in 144/5 and the V1s flying boms or Doodlebugs (due to range etc they hit South London more than North London). I remember my parents talking about the V1s - how when the engine cut out, it meant the V1 was going to drop - you had to take cover fast.

on a long ago thread, Steve Grindlay posted some images of hand-coloured maps - the colours indicate the extent of damage to each individual building ranging from black (total destruction) through to yellow (minor damage). i think they relate to all WW2 bomb damage, not just the blitz.

take a look here
