This happened to us a couple of years ago - came back from a week away to find our front door boarded up. Two guys had, in the middle of the day, come into the communal area of our maisonettes and gone at both our front door and our neighbour's at the same time. Ours gave way first it would seem and they got in, one kicked in the internal door leading to the downstairs rooms while the other ran upstairs and started rifling through our drawers. Luckily our upstairs neighbour was working from home, and came out onto the stairwell to see what the noise was. They must have heard his front door go, and scarpered with a few small pieces of jewellery and the first disc of Season 1 of The Wire (! Maybe they wanted to see if they liked it first before committing to the whole box...)

Anyway, the police indicated to our neighbour that they had a good idea who it was, given the bluntness of the approach, but I don't know if any arrests were made. I did think at the time though that with that M.O. it wouldn't be long before they were caught. maybe they were, and now they're back...
