Does SE23 have a fringe?

By far the majority of Crofton Park is in SE23. Only the small area north of Courtrai Road and East of Brockley Rise is in SE4. Check http://www.election-maps.co.uk/ to see the exact boundaries (search for Lewisham and then zoom in with ward boundaries turned on).

My original post below got moved to "beyond SE23". Since we don't have a "part in and part out of SE23" I hope the forum admin will tolerate a compromise post to both forums to ensure the maximum number of people know about this important local meeting which affects lives both in and out of SE23.

Quote:
To echo the post from thenutfield... the first Crofton Park Local Assembly will be on Wednesday 2nd July at 19:30 in St Hilda's Church Hall on the Brockley Road/Courtrai Road junction.

More details at http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/CouncilAndDem...kAssembly/

Any suggestions on what we in Crofton Park should spend our ?10,000 Localities Fund on?

Beyond this notice I suggest we continue discussion about the Assembly and Localities Fund for Crofton Park on the other thread at http://www.se23.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=707.

A discussion about whether there is a fringe to SE23 might continue here...

Living in Crofton Park ward (the SE23 part) I certainly affiliate myself with Honor Oak Park and Forest Hill more than Brockley - but I guess we have the best of both worlds on our doorstep.

Any other Crofton Park people out there?

We do. Beyond SE23 has always included just such topics.

It is interesting how little of Crofton Park ward is outside SE23, I never really appreciated this. Not only is this a different ward but it is also a different parliamentary constituency. While most of SE23 is in Jim Dowd's constituency, the Crofton Park area is in Joan Ruddock's constituency (North Lewisham & Deptford). I never realised I live so close to Deptford!

Conversely, living in the SE23 part of Crofton Park, it hadn't really occurred to me until I looked at the map that there were parts in SE4. I certainly don't think of us as living in Brockley.

Our personal affiliations are so much more organic than postcode or electoral boundaries drawn on a map.

Browsing around the SE23 postcode map it becomes clear that other wards spill into other postcodes. For example some of Perry Vale ward is actually SE26.

Of course one of the issues of living on the fringe is that you can be neglected by both sides since there is a tendency for funding to be allocated in the centre - this is probably more obvious at the borough boundary level since that is where most local service are delivered.

A recent case in point was the NHS "Picture of Health" consultation which assumes that this area affiliates itself with the NHS facilities to the south and east in Bexley, Bromley & Greenwich whereas most people I know who consider their local hospitals to be places to the west like Kings.

Looking further at the election maps site...

Under the the Westminster boundary changes even more of SE23 will be moving from Jim Dowd's newly titled "Lewisham West & Penge" to Joan Ruddock's newly titled "Lewisham Deptford".

And the Honor Park area around One Tree Hill (west of the railway) is moving from "Dulwich & West Norwood" to "Camberwell & Peckham" - that doesn't sounds like an upgrade but it seems to make sense if you look at the map.

Other interesting info on each new seat...

i definately think of brockley, crofton park, honor oak park and forest hill as separate, never mind the postcodes/ wards etc.
i live in the se4 bit of crofton park but on the streetmap, my road is right next to the honor oak park label....

so I say I live in honor oak park first... then when people say WHERE??? I say brockley! somehow people seem to have heard of brockley.
